Post Re: [Official] Firmware_PV76120_v8.5.x.r3966
I am amazed that:

After so long waiting we have this (only plus is look).

So laggy (I use 2TB disk, half full) thing i have not seen since time of Newton (first palm...).
Was beta testers in nirvana so they did not care about it?Or they just have too much time to waste?
My six years old daughter started to use expression "frozen" on this unit. She was pushing DTV choice (after full scan) after restart and show of home screen for 20-30 second and light on unit was blinking , but nothing happened- I'm impressed with so much time wasted not even to read comments on only AC Ryan forums, and not to do proper testing.
And this is a big pile of you now what from AC Ryan officials,- yes OFFICIAL FROM ACRYAN: EPG operational for one day only???
Are You people from Mars or what?
Time set manual+ 1h. And unit starts to record 3 hours in advance for full 4 hours (instead one)???
Oh My god, what You have been doing for 6 months (even the previous FW was not working correctly) :?: :?: :?:
How to add torrent?
functionality of web remote, EPG, name it................
You have decriesed speed for change of menus to speed of calculator?????

What is this? http://192.168.2.102:59724/ and how (if) to use it??

After this , long waited FW, i do expect from AC RYan to trow rotten tomatoes on us, it seems that they dont know where is the normal end....

And finally, I'm trying to contact some people from forum, but it seem that they have been banned and without any info on theirs post??

Good luck to us all

Unable to install the new firmware. Using the 'safe-flashing' procedure the installatation ends with:

Install error.

Get kernel image size failed.

Trying to reinstall the old firmware gives:

Install error.

Get audio image size failed.

Is there any way around this?

I've verified the img file size on the usb stick. A comparison of the extracted img file on my harddrive and the one on stick report equallity.
This is insane.

Player model: ACR-PV76120
Firmware version: 8.3.3.r4824 <-> 8.5.4.r3966
Reproducibility: always / 2/2 tries

I've downloaded the Asian version and safe-flashed without issues (aside from the abysmal functions and real-world experience).

The Asian version's MD5 checksum is 07AC4FE76B43D79B0F54B35799C7D820.
If you're on the Asian version you could do a MD5 checksum check to see if the file you've download throws up the same MD5 checksum as mine.

And to paraphrase - insane of ACRyan not to have a MD5 checksums for firmware downloads.

I tried twice to update with the new firmware without success - the process was frozen both times on the update progress bar screen. The solution was to copy the firmware onto another USB stick and try again.

As I read here only the HDMI pass-through problem is fixed. And you get many other much worse problems.

I read that, still:

- You cannot assign the number you wish to channels.
- When a recording starts interrupts whatever you do at this point (like viewing a movie). So difficult to fix!

No report about:

Be able to press on/off when a scheduled recording has start so to signal the device to go at standby after the recording is finished.

What I have to expect from the new firmware? Only HDMI pass-through fix, annoying but easy to work-around.

Thanks but I will pass. I am waiting for the new... official firmware already.

Guy's everyone complained so much about how long the FW was taking to be delivered that perhaps Ac ryan felt they had to release b4 everything was completely sorted.
I only use the PVR for music replay and the best part for me is that I feel sound quality over SPIDF has improved.
As a music replay device the PVR works well but the interface is slower in operation than b4 however I don't think indexing has completed on my unit as yet.
I would still like to see highlighted items with greater contrast to the rest of the display ie highlighted in red or green so they really stand out.
I am one of those guys that still expects mediatanks to be more flakey than dedicated devices so perhaps my expectations are not too high so the question is , are AC-R really worse than their competitors?

I do not think they are any better or worse than the competition. In my opinion it is primarily a matter of expectations and taste, very much the same as with cars.

I can understand that some POHD users are frustrated with bugs or missing functionality but I still look at this firmware release as if it's a bonus. In the past when I bought myself a mobile phone every time a new OS/ROM version came out the vendor basically forced me to buy a new phone because they wouldn't release a new ROM for my previous generation phone.

and I agree with his view.

The lack of EPG is my main beef.

Everything else I can handle.

But seriously, without the EPG sheduling, then we may as well throw this box in the bin or if you can, return it for a refund.

I don't care if the EPG issue if caused by Realtek licensing. The firmware should NOT have been released without it. A.C. Ryan are completely failing their customer base with the DVR. The product is being sold under false pretences.

Epic Fail. Absolutely taking customers for granted.

May as well just bought the HD2 player.

@ Duivels: i also think that new functions can be seen as a bonus, like youtube or the other internet media...
The problem is that there is not one firmware version which has no bugs!!!!!! The customers have paid money for their units. If the fundamental functions (media player, dvb-t, pvr) aren´t working without fail, everybody has the right to ask for a working firmware or get his money back!!!!!!!

Hmm, reading all these comments I really wonder if it makes sense to update the FW.
What is really improved?
The GUI - of cause, but I have to re-program my Harmony Remote which makes the Playon a little more 'wife-friendly'.
Youtube ... I have it running since months, and I'm not sure if I will be able to add new features to the new FW
What else is new or better???

And there a few things which become worse: EPG, speed/responsiveness and...

So for me, after waiting for 6 months for a new FW, it's currently a 'no, thank you!'
