And here came the third wave of gui 2.0 firmware and there seems to be even more bugs in this iteration.
And it's not even beta anymore, it's from the product page.

*shakes head*

So we'll have to wait for additional firmware releases to even get rid of the fundamental bugs?!

This failware situation is just sad. I've now given up all hope of ever recieving a good release from this company.

Aren't you doing any serious testing or even sanity checks before a release?
I mean the first gui 2.0 version broke when you switched menu language.
Even the lightest sanity check would catch that bug.

From the sounds of it most of the bugs in this fw are either in the realtek-controlled part of the code, or at the very least closely linked to it. If even half of all this stuff that's broken was just up to AC Ryan's own devs, i can at least entertain the notion they would've managed to fix some of it by now.

That's why i don't get why they haven't already decided to just cut their losses and go back to refining sdk3, preferably rewriting the UI from scratch from input gathered here on the forums in the process(i can dream, can't i?), and giving us a fully-functional, no-frills speedy piece of machinery.

I just don't see it.

+1 for that. Fix the bugs first, talk to the users, and then make it look pretty :)

20th May today. Still no new working firmware. Will there ever be one?!

A.C.Ryan, please inform us about what you're doing - or not doing.

Well, May 21st 2011 is the end of the world so what's the point?

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-13468131

I'm joking of course, but the religious nutters aren't.

I think it will be a long time coming as they appear to keep jumping onto newer sdk's which means longer development times.

Still, if the religious nutters are actually correct there's nothing to worry about anyway... well, maybe if you haven't been "raptured" there is. Being raptured sounds painful anyway.

Do you want to be raptured?

It sounds like a disease... I've got the raptures. Stinks like hell! Makes me walk funny. Gives me a twitch.

Cheers.

I for one get the strong feeling ACR has already abandoned us and isn't about to put a real effort into releasing a bug free, stable firmware. As soon as we've purchased one of their products they couldn't care less if it works or not or about their customer base. ACR is truly the most incompetent company I've ever bought a product from. The only thing they understand -like any other company- is money and I for one will strongly discourage anyone from buying one of their players and I sincerely hope ACR will be filing for bankruptcy soon because that's exactly what they deserve.

I think that's a bit strong. I want them to survive and provide support for their loyal customers.

Yes, it's been a long time for a stable, reliable firmware but From what Kraakie is saying and showing (with video) they are still working on it.

I am as frustrated as you and many others at the delay. I am a very patient person and I think they will come up with the goods soon. I am thinking within a week or so, that's my impression.

When they do release a new firmware for us to try it will be beta and it will have some bugs. I think it will be better than the last release. Just so long as they get the basic functionality right, that will do me. Media playing without issue. I could not care less about yamj, thumbgen, youtube, etc..

That's my view, at this moment.

For many of us the basic functionality needs to be focussed around network streaming - and YAMJ is essential - it makes the mini so much more euser friendly - especially foy my wife and children. The Jukebox implementation in the new firmware was a retrograde step from SDK3 and does need some work to restore the usability

It is June. Kraakie has recieved another test version. "Still things that need to be fixed" he says ...

"Hopefully there will be a new firmware soon", he also says.

Have we heard this before? Yes. The word "soon" has been used for months now.

You are optimistic. That's fine. What is giving you the impression that an official firmware is only weeks away?

It's been three months since the beta was released. Obviously there are more than one problem left to fix. Still ...

I can see that you are satisfied with yet another beta. Well, I don't think you speak for the majority in this case. I bought my player in the beginning of this year. I have never seen such strange behaviour from a company before. Just take a look at the video that Kraakie has published. What company lets a person put a test firmware out on Youtube, with bugs in it, and without clothes on his upper body. The impression I get is that A.C.Ryan actually totally lacks judgement. It's more like a bad comedy. Sadly.

I asked a serious question to "Harro", the person at A.C.Ryan that wrote the topic on the latest firmware. That question was removed by Kraakie. Is it off topic to ask an employee at A.C.Ryan wheather there will be an official firmware release or not?
