Post Re: [BETA] ACR-PV73100 v7.4.x.r2115 Playon!HD
Harro mentions in the beginning of the thread that this fw's UI is unnecessarily slow on 1073 hw due to the use of compressed images, and elucidates well the other issues with this fw, but seems to imply a speedy fix implementing at least some fixes, and then take it progressively onwards from there. That was almost a quarter ago.

One has to wonder, could the energy spent on trying to fix those bugs(if any?) instead have been spent further refining the SDK3-based fw tree? It's not like Realtek will keep supporting the newer SDK any longer/better than they did the older ones. Basically in whatever state the dvdplayer is in when they release it, it stays that way for the life of the SDK, barring the odd fix deemed 'critical', all in all easily counted on one hand.

I'm staying on trusty old r4824 until i at the very least don't take a major hit in functionality & speed, wouldn't you?

Apologies to the mods if this was the incorrect place to post this. Keep up the good work guys!

Thanks for the reply Metroke,

I used tjhe wirelss with the old FW without any issue so i just got use to it. Since the update i do now have the wired in on a permanent basis, but the same issue is present, for example. I would transfer 10 tv shows. If i did them all at once it would be fine. but i did them one at a time then it may cut out at show no.4 or 5.

When i say cut out, i mean, you lose the ping ability and cannot connect to it at all, but the device still works and it says the connection test = Passed.

Only a restart seems to fix this, I've now setup the device via a manual IP rather than a DHCP option, so far so good.

If there is anything else you would like me to test just let me know.

Just to sumerize the issues.

-> Wirelss connection cuts out when trying to transfere any files (restart needed)
-> Wired connection cuts out after a period of time for no reason (restart needed)
-> Auto Scan enabled results in "Press confirm to start file system check, press cancel to return" on screen. Whichever i select, it just seems to always make my hard drive and the recently added files vanish from the home screen.
-> Jukebox, is extrealy slow, i have 220 moives, takes abour 3 to 4 seconds to select the next movie (you can imagion going through the movie selection is time consuming)
-> Can not see any option to update my Music or Photo indexies? On the main window both folders are empty, need to go through to file manger to view. With the exception of the thumbnail images i have for some tv eposides - which is just annoying - surely it would make sence to hide images called folder.jpg like windows does?
->I have 4 folders in my root HDD1, muisc, images, movies & tv, the first 3 are created by the media player, i created the 4th. I would have thought that on the main menu "Movies" would link to the movie folder and so on, but this is also not the case. I can see my "tv" folder content in the "Movies" option.

bottom line is i now only use "File Manger" as its the only thing that works...
->

We will try to fix 1 or 2 problem's at a time:

The first thing i would do is a reinstall of the firmware on the AC.

Lets start with the connections. First with the new beta firmware yes there are many problems witch should be fixed in the very near future hopefully. My question to you is why do you have 2 connections: wireless and wired connection ???. I have also both of them but now i only use the wired one because after making a few tests i saw that the wired connection is much more faster then the wireless and my computer is only 15 feet from my set up. I would recommend that you use only wired. Once that is done go to you set up and choose the wired set up and make sure the AC makes the wired connection test. After this you should not have any problems with that any more. Now with the windows do you have any problems connecting from the AC to the computer because it is a big hassle to get windows 7 to work with any home group.

Get back to me after to see if the connection is OK now

I do have the same issues but i would say that all of this will be fix in the next firmware. Before the firmware i did not have any problems transferring but now i do also only 1 or 2 at a time other then that you can watch movies with no problem at all. If you need any help please give me a shout even in the PM if you want.

I have installed this firmware and so far all my in-progress torrent are gone. How can I get them back on downloading again?

Also, i have movie arrange in the directory. But when I go to movie menu, the movies menu seems to list out all movies rather than by directory/folder. How can I change the view?

With specific reference to the functionality of this beta (ACR-PV73100 v7.4.x.r2115) running on a Playon!HD can anyone advise me what functionality would I loose if I switched to a WD TV Live Hub. I understand the WD has DLNA/UPNP server which is something we will never get from AC Ryan Im just concerned there is some functionality the PlayOnHD gives that I'm overlooking.

For the purposes of this question assume a release based on r2115 functionality ie bug free.

With further reference to r2115 is there a way to ensure the USB drives always show up in the same order? My C: and D: drives flip flop around and since the volume label is not displayed it is like Russian roulette.

It would also be good if we could turn off the first menu item and really kill the searching function, to me that is killing the POHD because it is expecting too much from the available hardware. With over 1500 items in my movie library it is much easier to go to File Manager to find an item than scroll and/or filter using the Media display. Yes its pretty but its too slow when you know what you want to watch and where it is stored. Any opinions?

At the moment i'm not so very happy with the r2115 beta. It plays fine but is slow. I can live with that for now. But it does support DLNA ;) My network sees a "Realtek Embedded UPnP Render"

Sorry to disagree but there is a big difference from uPNP client (renderer) supported by POHD to uPNP/DLNA SERVER which competative products offer, it means the contant of the POHD becomes available to devices like PS2 and XBox360 and many more.

I updated my POHD with this firmware but after I did that, I couldn't get a connection with the internet.
I put the dongle in the POHD and started to connect it with wireless internet. I filled in the securecode my SSID has. Then the POHD started testing the connection and after a while it said 'Testing Failed'. When I pushed the return button, the POHD couldn't find any wireless networks at all. Then I'd had to restart the POHD and do this all over again, untill I gave up.
Untill today I still don't have a connection with my wireless internet.
Could somebody please help me?

yours faithfully,
Mitchel

Hi, is the name of your network very long, perhaps? I had the same (or at least a similar) issue with mine during the brief time I was using this FW. The problem went away after I changed the SSID into something shorter. Can't remember what the limit was, but if it's not displayed on the POHD in its entirety then you're up the proverbial creek.

Good luck,
Mat
