I removed all off topic messages in this thread.
This topic is about the functionality bugs and other problems of this firmware version.
So please keep this thread clean and on topic otherwise this thread is unreadable. Good idea, thanks! But could you maybe open an "Unofficial" thread for the v9.5.5.r2988 firmware in this forum so the discussion can the place in the right thread? Cheers, Olaf

What is it written in? I wouldn't normally make comments like these as I don't believe in criticising a fellow developer or his code but there are those who write good code and those who don't much like traditional writing, the difference can be a reduction of 80% in code which generally means faster apps and less bugs, my comments are solely towards playon. Speaking as a software developer myself I'd love to see the code as well, especially if there's only one engineer working on it. At RedHat me and my colleagues regularly review what the other has written. This keeps us on our toes and also keeps us from getting complacent. And to be completely honest, looking at the GUI and the responsiveness, having another pair of eyes go over it wouldn't be a bad idea.

That's not what I'm interested in. It's the closed parts I'd like to see

just tried to upgrade, it failed. badly. that's what happened: I copied the install.img file on the usb stick, then I followed the "easy" guide to upgrade. the HD mini 2 rebooted and started the upgrade: a big old style upgrade screen show up with a huge green progress bar. Then at around 1/3 of the process, BAZINGA, some random error text "please reboot" (sorry but i didn't realize it could be important). Starting to freak out i rebooted and, confirming my fears, now the system is stuck in the "playon! engage your senses" start up screen. i followed the procedure carefully and, obviously, i didn't power off it during the upgrade. what can i da now? please please help me i'm desperate

Copy install.img to the root directory of a USB flash drive and connect it to any USB host port of the unit. 2. Switch off the main power to the unit. 3. Press and hold on to the power button on the front panel of the unit. 4. Switch on the main power. 5. Release the power button when the firmware update starts flashing on your display in a moment and will automatically reboot when update is completed. **Do not power off the unit during the flashing process!**

It's mostly the Realtek base stuff (audio codecs, hardware drivers, the base OS, etc.) the actual implementation of the GUI is done by AC Ryan and therefore closed source. They're not obliged to include it in the source package. It's a shame because that's the big part where a lot of the problems are, not just technical bugs, but a whole lot of usability bugs.

I concur with kinematic and mensch, I was also talking about the GUI implementation.

 Re: [Official] Firmware Release PV73800 v9.5.5.r2073 Mini2
Hello Everybody!
I have a question about the new firmware, which contains the BD Lite menu. How does it work? Because I tried it some BD film (ISO and also Blu ray structures) and it didn't work. Is it a basic profile, like the DVD menu? I tried the ISO Tangled, and the BD struc A-ha The Final Concert and it is failed. It play's only the main film. So what did I wrong?
