Post Re: The big, "firmware developing", topic.
I came here via the firmware topic. I notice that these forums are a much lesser place to be then they used to. Unfortunately, AC Rayn staff and mods fail to see the real problem.

Your customers are unsatisfied. And there is no real attempt to do anything about it. Questions about information are put off with a "be patient, firmware will come" etc. etc.). In the end, everybody gets frustrated and none happy.

I am an unhappy customer and i will never by an AC Ryan product again. Even worse: I have actively discouraged potential buyers to buy AC Ryan. A professional company would mind, I doubt AC Ryan will.

If AC Ryan takes their customers serious, I hope they start listening to the problems instead of banning criticism from their forums.

My suggestion for future development of firmware:

I understand that the POHD i bought is nearly two years old and therefore not capable of runnig a fancy GUI. So how about this: Ac Ryan makes a last and final firmware which fixes all the known bugs. That's all. We won't be bothering you again and you can focus on making all the gimmicks for your new products. Deal?

Thats what they are doing right now not really a final fw but stick to 1 sdk version and try to fix all bugs in that sdk instead of jumping every monh to a new sdk version wich creates again new bugs etc etc

That's not what i mean. Today, AC Ryan is working on making GUI2.0 work. In my opinion this is a waste of time. They're better of trying to get the firmware stable for the original POHD boxes, and after that create the GUI 2.0 for the newer models (POHD2, Fluxx etc.). Off coursse all should be done in the same version of SDK.

AC Ryan lacks vision.

What really saddens me is that they won't adress the shortcuts in the next firmware.

And since the current development speed/quality is so low I have little faith that it will be delivered before the end of 2011 and I honestly don't think I have the patience to wait another year for a basic function like that.

I get the feeling that the coming update is 100% focused on fixing errors (that should never have been released public to begin with but that's another story) and whatever "future development" plans there may be, the will be just that, future.

And who knows, by 2012, will the generation 1 players even be supported...?

Mmm what else do you want get a final release with all kinds of bugs in it. The release was a BETA release so u can expect problems, that's why it's called a BETA!

What you expect for a unit that just cost 100 euros? Changes are so quick, every year there is a new and improved player, so expect support for older players to cease every 2 years or so.

Oh great!

You're a real Doom and Gloom merchant aren't you?

What's your problem - hemorrhoids or the mother in law?

I'm hoping that by 2012 there will be a firmware release that doesn't try to be all things to all men, but instead, a firmware dedicated to one type of chip, which doesn't overload the chip, doesn't bog it down with unnecessary graphics and gives us the basic functions flawlessly without throwing a wobbler, locking up or rebooting.

Actually, I'm hoping that this miraculous peice of firmware will appear well before 2012, well before summer 2011 in fact. Now that would be nice.

This week would be even nicer but I think that is asking far too much.

All I want\need is the basic functionality of a networked media streamer\storage. That is what I bought it for. Load the media onto the disk and watch it on my tv whenever I want. That's all. Get it right and then abandon it for newer models. Just don't abandon it when the firmware is so glitchy and nasty and horrible like it is now.

Cheers.

A.V.

Harrytasker, read my post again. You're missing my point.
After that, read AV's post.

@ AlienVisitor
Spot on.

What's even more odd is the fact that this buggy firmware is installed in units that are shipped as we speak. In my opinion A.C. Ryan is fooling customers by promising features that doesn't work.

A.C. Ryan seems to consider it to be more than a beta. They are selling units with this buggy firmware installed.
