 Re: New Firmware
Hi,
sorry to replay in this way:
I buy a Mercedes I do not care about their sub-company’s mistakes. It’s a Mercedes and it’s their responsibility.
I buy a A.C.Ryan I do not care about Realtek’s mistakes. It’s A.C.Ryan signed on the HD2 and it’s their responsibility. Otherwise the company titanics.
Regards

 Re: New Firmware
this thread seems to be gettign a little to heated (includign the moderator ). however the questions being raised are all valid and we should not be distracted from then. - when can we expect the next firmware release? - what time line between future releases? - why can we not have bug fixes in between as well? Dave

TitanFox wrote: Do you know that all realtek players come from the same factory ? They all use the same sdk ?
-Well, I suppose that all Realtek players come from the same factory. I really doubt that they all use exactly the same SDK.
It's a marketing trick we don't do that we don't have this etc etc
-Ah, the marketing discussion. I had that one with technical support. What about AC Ryan, writing down "Gigabit LAN" in the technical specifications ? They did not mention "Streaming only" while pre-ordering was possible. It was only a day after I got the HD2 that their website was changed so it would mention "Gigabit Streaming". When I pre-ordered it, there was no information to be found anywhere that it would only allow streaming. If you watch their website and look at "Technical Specifications" it still says "Gigabit LAN" which is incorrect. The term "Gigabit LAN" is only valid if the LAN port allows speeds up to 1 GBit no matter which transfer protocol you use. For me this still counts as misleading information. Every company uses clever marketing techniques, but AC Ryan is no saint either when it comes to this.
All players from realtek have there problems sdk related or not !! And thats a fact !
-Which will prevent me for buying another Realtek player in the future. I rather use my PC now for watching movies instead of using the Playon!HD2. It seems that even after years of selling Realtek chipsets, SDK's still produce to many restrictions / problems to make their device usable. I'll rather stick to Popcorn Hour next time. At least their players work decently and are beeing updated regularly. Even the older models. Why they work fine you ask ? Well ... Oh yeah ... they don't use Realtek chipsets (PCH uses Sigma chipets).
To give you a idea
On the prodigy page they claim they have usb 3 and the china clone (mede8or acryan etc etc) don;t have it : False hd2 has usb 3
-Okay, correct. However, this comparisation chart has been on their site for a long time, even before the HD2 was released. Could also bin a mistake / lack of updating.
They claim they have gigabit lan and china clone not - Also false
-Actually, this is true. The HD2 does NOT have Gigabit LAN. It allows Gigabit Streaming. Since the RTD1185 only has a 10/100 Mbit LAN controller built in and uses an external NIC for the streaming part, the HD2 does not provide FULL Gigabit LAN functionality. Transferring data only goes to about 6 MB/sec which is equivelant to 100 Mbit Half-Duplex.
And so one. All the options you see at the prodigy product page can also be done on the acryan mede8or etc with sdk 4.
-If this is true, why does AC Ryan stick with this horrible interface ? Why not use flash instead ? Technical support told me that they actually wanted to reduce the static PNG background from 1920x1080 to 1280x720 to make the interface react faster. What sorry-a** excuse is this ? A 500 Mhz chipset that has difficulties to make a interface work normally just because PNG background is used ?? Haven't heard of such bull-sh*t since the release of Windows 95 (in case of performance issues, remove your desktop image).
But it's a choice wich options to use or not.
-To me it sounds that AC Ryan makes all the wrong decisions. They don't listen to the input users give them and do the things they think is right for us, without taking past experiences in account. As what I wrote earlier, I think almost all HD2 users would rather get a smaller firmware update every two weeks then one big one every 3 months. I understand that programming with a new SDK is difficult, but that is something that AC Ryan should have thought of in advance. You can't just let customers wait month after month, without any kind of feedback on the progression. All you get is "We know, we are working on it but don't know if and when it will be fixed".
Next mediaplayer I buy will either be a Popcorn Hour or a HTPC. With a HTPC I have my own control over the software beeing used, because the worries that I had (about giving software development away to the vendor would be a bad idea-) came out to be true. I am just so sick of waiting and not beeing able to do anything about it.
I compare it with buying a car with a faulty engine. You have to wait for the repairshop to find out what is wrong with it but they can't give you any date when it will be fixed. Unfortunally, that repairshop only has interns as employees that can barely hand a screwdriver.
Personally I think the chances of getting a decent firmware soon are as big as my chances of survival in the Muppet Hospital. "Doctor Bob, Doctor Bob ... the patient is dying" Dr. Bob : "Well, at least his worst worries are over then, hahahaha" Well to bad The ac ryan player is not working for you.

 Re: New Firmware
Well, I do have to say that again I'm disappointed with the answers. First off I will say thank you to the ACR staff for even responding.. something that hasn't happend in a while. But then.. Saying that it is normal that it takes 3 to 4 months for a firmware update is just a way to say to us - very subtle - that it will probably take another 2 months before we will receive an update. Meanwhile everyone is at home with their buggy HD2 or HD2 Mini.. I've said it and I repeat it.. The storm of hatred and painfull commentary is just because this product shouldn't be released to sell.. It wasn't ready and it's still not ready. Again.. the pressure.. CES2011.. every vendor is ready with their streamer and ACR wans't.. that couldn't happen. For us this is really painfull because we bought and paid a lot for a streamer that isn't functioning very well. Then to finally (after 2 months) hear that it could take another two months. You probably should've started selling the HD2 in July. Then it would probably be ready. In reply that it is normal that it takes 3-4 months I can only reply with a laugh. No other company releases with such gaps between frmwares and neither did ACR in the past. But now everyone is breathing down their necks (so to speak) it suddenly is 4 months. Unfortunatly I have no leverage nor pressure to enforce but I find it shamefull what ACR did with this product. I hope this will not have repercussions to the future because of what I can read here and in other forums I think you will be presented the bill in the future. Just my opinion..

 Re: New Firmware
Hi everyone,
My mistake for not giving you the details and sorry for the confusion. Yes there are firmware which do come every week or more or less every month but all those firmware is only meant for internal testing and development. There is no guarantee that all firmwares we received can be used. End user's cannot use this firmware and we cannot launch it to Public.
Yes i did say that it may take 3-4months to launch a firmware but I'm actually referring to Official Releases. An example would be firmware version 3875,3582 and 4824 these firmwares was released after 3-4 months date. Beta firmware may come along, one in two months or in a month but it will still depend on the SDK provided to us if it is ok and good to go.
Thank you for all your understanding. We are really pushing to launch a new firmware, currently we now have a target candidate for official release or Beta. Please stay tuned and be more patient guys as we are also very eager to provide you with solution as soonest possible. If all test will go fine then you can expect one firmware in the next few weeks or early May.
Sorry for any inconvenience.

 Re: New Firmware
Dear Roger,
This one confuses me... Last week Kraakie told us that he was testing a beta version of the firmware and "We get frequently updates with new bugfixes or tweaks in it so takes pretty much time to test it. But things look good so far."
Arne stated "We ran into some minor problems with the last test so we had to postpone again."
And now you are telling us it could be up to early May before a new firmware is released? What the **** is going on? AC Ryan is clearly losing grip on it's projects.
It is ongoing process of sorry's, and frankly I don't have any confidence in AC Ryan anymore.
There are too many people (ACR and mods) promissing or saying things they can't fulfill. It is embarressing to see that 2 month after the release of the HD2 (Mini) there is no usermanual.
My personal opnion is that ACR has to step up and give full openness about the problems (maybe by one of the leading managers at ACR). Futhermore there has to be one spokesperson covering messages on upcoming releases.
There are already many users who are sending back their units or selling them. Others consider legal actions against AC Ryan.
I really hope that AC Ryan gets it act together the coming days.

 Re: New Firmware
i was testing a internal beta yes.
What i don't understand is A staff member explains what's going on and you still complaining.
Yes they are close to a public version but since there are still certain bugs that are not completely resolved or not work as we want it to be we still developing and testing and bug hunting to provide a stable firmware.
We can release it now but then we will have this discussion over and over again.
They doing all they can have all there resources on 150% working already.
And Roger/Ac ryan is trying to keep you informed as much as he can
And also the moderators try to keep you informed as much as possible.

 Re: New Firmware
Hi Kraakie,
First: I responded on a post from Roger, so I expect a answer from him (or a manager)
Second: Roger doesn't explain, he simply tells us to wait for some weeks, the explaining part was on normal release procedure - not on bugfxing
Third: the processing time of 2-3 weeks for, "... some minor problems with the last test..." as Arne told us last Friday, is a bit much or not.
I will wait and see if Roger is willing to respond on my post.

 Re: New Firmware
We gave you all the answers
End of discussion
Firmware is still being developed and will be released as soon as that is possible.
And since this is an endless discussion i close this topic
Firmware when released can be found in the firmware section.
And through the normal communication ways twitter/facebook/newsletter/website/forum it will be announced.
