I agree with kraakie it's going to be a little off-topic but in my opinion it is (partly) becuse of ACRyan.

Many people told their problems with this beta firmware but nobody from ACRyan confirmed the problems or told anything about that. This leads to a lot of customer disappointed.

We got a promise from ACR for a new perfect firmware but we didn't get it.

Almost one month went again and still no answer when will we get the new firmware.

I appreciated the work that ACRyan does, but please communicate us!

I want to address the concerns that a lot of you are having regarding Firmware. AC Ryan from the beginning existed for the community, our primary focus was delivering the best product with the most advanced, frequent firmware updates. The problem is we started trying to be all things to all people and over the past six months have been rebuilding firmware from scratch based on every SDK release from Realtek. These releases are weekly and apply to each chipset of our fast growing product family. With every release you need to start from scratch which obviously is very time consuming and drains valuable resources. There was a method to our madness, we wanted to bring the community the latest features possible but we realise that this is costing us precious time and resources better spent on fixing bugs instead of implementing all features offered by the weekly SDK’s which aren’t necessarily what the majority of you want. So, bottom line we are refining and refocusing to ensure that going forward firmware stability is complete for each SDK and building only on SDK’s which allow for the functionalities that our users love and need. You may be thinking we don’t want to know why, just make it happen, well that is exactly what we are doing.

PS: can anyone explain to me what signal exactly is outputted when SPDIF is set to pass-through? What is the difference between the output in r.4824 and r.2115? Can SPDIF be used to transfer surround sound? Or is it limited to two channels?

look at the thread of the 4824 FW. If you put spdif, the surround sound works. the problem then is, if you want to listen to mp3 with stereo for exampel, there will be no sound. you have to set to dual channel lpcm.
so, i always switch between these options, depending of what i hear. thats quite s**t. as far as i know it's because of the sdk version of the realtek chip. its a known bug there
