My suggestion to ACRyan tech dept ..

* Have a ONLY thread for official firmware release which is stable.
* Have a ONLY thread for release or beta firmware for owner to test it out

With the only two threads, live will be much more easier for owner of PlayON! HD. At lease they know where to look for and not face with tons of unnecessary threads. It's a nightmare especially for senior citizen when browsing the forum.

I've the PlayON!HD for nearly over a year and still bugs from the earlier releases are still present. I should have go and buy from a much more reliable competitor which can provides stable firmware upgrade.

Has anyone noticed before that 96Khz flac audio files are outputted in 48Khz only?

I've been using firmware 4318 for quite a while but was forced to reload firmware because the playon suddenly resorted to factory defaults at every boot time. I accendentally loaded 4368 instead of 4318 and liked the look and some new features.

Especially the separate audio setting for simulaneous SPDIF and HDMI output. I already read MP3 outputting over SPDIF passthrough was not possible in 4368 and 4824 (that was the reason i stayed at 4318 as it worked flawslessly there in passthrough SPDIF mode), but I also noticed that outputting 96khz/24bit FLAC files over SPDIF results in an 48KHZ PCM signal , regardless of the setting (passthrough or lpcm). I also switched the HDMI output to passthrough, but no results.

The good thing is that in passthrough mode you do get an LPCM signal from FLACs (unlike MP3), the bad news is that it is limited /downsampled to 48 Khz.

DTS 96/24 signals are outputted correcly in 96Khz when in SPDIF passthrough mode though.

I upgraded to 4824 , but it has the same behaviour.

I'll revert back to 4318 I think. No simultaneous output to HDMI and SPDif there, but 96KHZ LPCM is supported (and Mp3 is outputted as LPCM in passthrough mode).

Maybe those are related? Simulaneously outputting to SPDIF an HDMI forces the playon to downsample 96khz LPCM?

Each firmware is listed as either beta or official.

Lots of flaws (not really bugs, but flaws in the design, like the subtitle tags thingy or the SPDIF Stereo passthrough), and no word of a corrective, official revision.
Any realistic forecast?

I am personally one of the betatestteam (which also includes some "normal" users, even if i consider myself to be one too), currently testing the lates FW.

We are working on ironing the bugs out as we speak... i myself would be very pleased with this fw, (IF they will be able to get all the bugs out) to bring it out as an official version, after the pre-release has been tested by the general public as beta...

The statement that no new fw will be released as the POHD and Mini will be "ancient" holds no thruth, as the mini2 and pohd2 work in mainly the same manner. This is a explicit choice by ACR...

Of course there will be a time when new firmware will be mainly for newer products, but as for now: not in the near future, and also only after we have a nice stable "final" fw...

(on top of that, we always have the -other development- threads, which have also been allowed oppen on this forum, and this is one of the reasons why: open forum, open sourcecode, result: never ending upgrades, as long as users are interested....
