 Tested Network speed HD2??
Hi There, What is the real (tested) network speed of these HD2 players? i can see Gigabit in the specs.. I have a playonHD wich spec'd 100mbit.. but this lan speed is slower then my download speed on usenet downloads... with the playonHD i get an amazing average speed of 3.7 MB/sec.. The speed to my NAS (Synology) is a decent 27 MB/sec (the bottleneck is the HDD in my laptop) So my network should perform well enough over Gigabit. I don't expect NAS speeds from a media player but something faster then 3.7MB/sec shoud be possible..??? I'm thinking to by a HD2 but since i was really, really dissapointed in the HD network speed some info would be nice...

Well.. The networkspeed is faster than 3.7MB/sec... When transfering a file using FTP the 'amazing' average speed is 5.9MB/sec When transfering the same file to my laptop (that's connected to the same gbit switch) the speed is about 40MB/sec.

Wow thats amazing jim... I dont use ftp so i cant really compare.. i transfer my files using windows explorer or extract directly out of sabnzb to the.playon. ftp is usually a bit slower, but i dont expect an improvement of 35mb/sec with transfering over direct file copying. What speed do you get if you copy directly to the playon using explorer? grtz alex

Well.. That speed is just a little more amazing than the FTP transfer speeds: ~7 MB/sec I can't help but being very disappointed about the flaws of this product

Well they didn't actually state that the gigabit port would do you any good now did they? The specs just say that there is a gigabit port. (Note, it was the same with the previous players as well. The hardware is just too weak to handle traffic properly)

 Re: Tested Network speed HD2??
Well.. I have a Conceptronic CH3SNAS (released june 2007) with a 500MHz CPU and 128MB RAM that can do 20MB/sec..
So I think the CPU is a non-argument in this case, since this new Realtek CPU should be more than capable to handle (at least) 20MB/sec..

 Re: Tested Network speed HD2??
Feel free to browse the forum, the last generation of AC Ryan players topped out at 2.5 Mbps. Yup, that was maximum. (google AC Ryan + slow transfer speed and you'll find it. Can't be arsed to find it, browsing on the phone) I don't think the newer players performs much better than what is reported in this topic.
Perhaps 20% faster.

(that is my personal humble opinion ) Altough if i knew that the LAN performance was that slow at time of buying i would have bought a Sigma based player such as a PopcornHour, even if they priced some higher. As for 100mbit a 7MB/sec i could live with, comparing 12.5MB/sec as the max transfere rate for 100mbit(if i'm correct??).. What i do find dissapointing is that you might expect some more network performance from a player that is stated as "play, store, STREAM" And i expected some more from realtek who has never dissapointed me in networking performance. As for the in the gigabit in the HD2 players, i find this very misleading, since this speed isn't aproached by far.....
