Do any of you fellas have an idea of prices for the new FLUXX and the Playon!HD2?

Cheers.

Post Re: The big, "firmware developing", topic.
The GUI 2.0 and SDK 4.0 topics are abandoned, the (bi?)weekly updates in the firmware topics are gone once more. This topic (the url) is hardly a place many people find, not knowing that it's here under "Lounge - General Chat", and barely mentioned in the first post of the threads about new firmwares.

I still feel that a technical discussion about firmwares, should be done in a subforum especially made for firmwares. Which does exist... and that's where most people actually go to read and discuss about the firmware(s development*).

People don't stumble across this thread. Dump the thread, or promote it. (and format the startpost, starting with interpunction where required. )

Communication should be improved, was a much asked for 'feature'. Junwei made a good effort in giving a near weekly update.

What's there to discuss if AC Ryan company doesn't give much to talk about? They sent out a note about the GUI 2.0 that came with the SDK 4.0 from Realtek. But are we on the brink of releasing it? Are we on the edge of getting another beta?

*it should be "firmware development", not 'developing'

Most info regarding the new GUI (with updates from AC Ryan) can be found here:
Playon! GUI 2.0 coming; screenshots, schedule and more info

I think this topic has just been "put on hold" until the new GUI has been released on all units. It seems 99% of people only want info on new GUI and as such post in the topic linked above.

While i agree that communication can always be improved by all parties, i believe the original thread was meant as an information thread with discussion limited to questions about that firmware.

This thread i believe, especially by its location, doesn't suffer from this limitation, so we can wander OT like we just did a little bit without fear or just shoot the breeze more freely here than in the official thread.

I think its fine and am happy to chime in here as well. I'm the most worried about which longstanding issues with the core dvdplayer app are still there in SDK4, and which new ones are introduced. Supposedly they rewrote parts of the proprietary stuff this time, or so i'm told? I'll play Devil's advocate and say it sounds like we might see regression on old and obscure format issues, audio, video, subs et al unless there really was quality control at realtek this time, which i doubt.

Also, as a non-native English speaker myself, i think its a bit mean to pick on the Dutch and other nationalities and their misspellings and creative use of the English language. Furthermore, i believe the phrase "firmware, developing[of]" is correct and about synonymous with firmware development. Point is, everyone at AC Ryan who posts here, expresses themselves understandably IMHO.

Now, lets try to collectively pray for a early beta within January!

indeed krille,

as the title was meant to be.

it is a topic to discus the way the development of the firmwares are going.

not about the technical site of the firmwares themselves.
that indeed is for the release topic of that specific firmware.

here one can say what is on his mind concerning the development of the firmwares,
and maybe some pointers on how to improve or where it goes.
and what we as a user would love to see on the development.

;)

Well i feel we should maybe differentiate between improvements, that if implemented would have to originate in the "dvdplayer" app, and those that can be implemented by Junwei & Co @ AC Ryan.

I'm trying to shift focus of my suggestions to the bits that AC Ryan directly controls, which more or less means everything that happens in the UI, up until i play a file, if i've understood correctly. Everything after that is subject to Realtek's agreeing on its an issue worth fixing which is rarer than what i'd like to call ideal(to put it nicely;) ). But i digress.

The name of the game for me is Shortcuts. Make it extremely easy to do some commonly done stuff. By easy i mean single press of a remote button. The way i browse now (List mode), while stable, isn't ideal for browsing large collections. I gave YAMJ a spin, didnt care much for how it looked and felt on my TV.

I'd like the gui to remember more stuff through reboots. I'd like a switch which would allow me to always enter the directory i was last in when i hit Browse. Bypassing the whole HDD select -> HDD1 routine.

And can we get into some kind of closed beta of that same fw kraakie is making his youtube vids from pls? :) Show me the NDA and ill gladly sign it! But i really need this new stuff now, possibly some of my suggestions have been addressed.

You can try, but from my knowledge it's not so easy. I suppose it would be easier to establish own company and get in touch with Realtek instead of asking A.C. Ryan about SDK, because they simply can't do it (agreement with Realtek), but I'm sure license for Realtek's SDK cost A LOT.

Lost case, if I can say.

Actually GUI remembers more stuff between reboot in local database, for example 10 recently played files and it's doing this for quite a long time. It's just not implemented via any Menu/Option/whatever for the end-user.

As of Dvdplayer modifications: I completely understand you.

It's funny you should mention this, i actually sent a message to Realtek in Taiwan from an engineer working on a 1073 project's fw perspective. I wanted to know amongst other things if they truly believed there could be a default setting for everything, and specifically addressed basic things like zoom "presets" and a few other bits.

I still eagerly await their answer, however.

1. the process is unstable
2. communication for information and happy users
3. time schedule, and if it can't contain release dates, how about Communication Day. Every 1st and 15th of the month...

Dirk, you well know why for many it has become pointless to even bother to speak their minds and give positive critic/feedback on how to improve things. I still do like the effort the mods put in this, but I hope yo ucan agree that a lot of positive vibes have gone of the past year due to the company itself.
