Re: Mpd using USB soundcard possible?
Ok it seems to be that I am the only one who want´s to play mp3´s using mpd on his POHD.
So I need to do it myself. It will not be easy but let´s give it a try.....
I will post my results here so maybe somebody else wanst to join me on this bumpy ride
First lets start with the hardware.
I have a PLAYON HD with mikka´s optware frendly firmware
http://stg.unixstorm.org/playon/about.phpI bought a Soundblaster play USB
http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/259456/c ... 00002.htmlPlugged it in my DELL latitude D620 laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 and played some music out of the box
Sound quality is way better than the internal intel sound board.
That means at least a recent 2.6 ubuntu kernel supports the soundblaster play.
A few more steps to go ....
I found this interesting url regarding a realtek toolchain
http://www.plugondevice.com/forum/viewt ... p?f=5&t=10One of the last post a guy has made a vmware virtual machine with a compete toolchain to build your own kernel modules.
I have dowloaded the image from alt.binaries.boneles. I had to install a newgroup reader first since I am a complete NZB noob
I will play a bit with the image and I will let you know the results.
To be continued ......
