 DVR 76120 questions
I'm interested in buying this unit. I hear good things and i hear bad.
What i would like to know is how this unit works in Australia.
1. Can you record 2 programs at the same time, while watching a third channel, or previous recorded program. What is the quality like?
2. Can you browse the internet, eg. email, youtube, etc.
3. Does it have a clock on the front?
4. Is it wife friendly.
Please help! There are many media recorders on the market and I'm a bit confused.
Thanks

 Re: DVR 76120 questions
It only has 2 tuners so you can record 2 programs but you can't watch a third channel. The quality is excellent on recorded programs. You can't browse the internet, but you can access feeds. There is no clock on the front. It is a useful unit but not totally user friendly.

 Re: DVR 76120 questions
Recording from the epg is extremely simple and the times can be edited.

 Re: DVR 76120 questions
PRO's: - playes all common formats and plays them smooth. - Video qualiy is VERY GOOD - recorded programs quality is good - internal HDD option is very convinient - one of the only devices that can record (on HD Quality)
CON's: - many firmware updates, and still lacking - not very easy for non-technical people - too many clicking before playing files - sending files throug Wifi (e.g. movies) is VERY SLOW.
I know people who have: - Xtreamer/Etrayz - WD HD Live
But i would not trade with them, because they have no recording option. Good luck making up your mind. if any questions, please ask.

 Re: DVR 76120 questions
Thanks for replies. The only reason I'm interested in this, is due to the "all in one package."
If it wasn't for that, I'd go for something like the WD HD Live.
What about noise coming from the unit (fan & Hard Disk)?

 Re: DVR 76120 questions
I find THE fan sound not annoying. I have a PS3 which makes kuch more noise. Even my plasma makes more noise than the playon. So dont worry.

 Re: DVR 76120 questions
Hi Guys, sorry to hi-jack the thread, but i'm in a similar position when trying to decide whether the PV76120 is for me. I'm currently using playtv on PS3 and love its user friendly menus, streaming from PC and ease of programming through the EPG. However, I really want to be able to record two programs at once and transfer the recordings off the PS3. As far as I can tell from my research the AC Ryan unit will do all this for me and more. My only questions are: -Are both tuners HD and capable of recording all channels available in Australia (eg ONE HD, TEN, 7mate etc)? -When recording two shows at once, can you perform other actions at the same time such as stream off your PC? -If I purchase two units, can I easily watch what I've recorded on one unit on the other unit or on my PC? -If I start a recording, can I start watching the recording and 'catch up' to live TV? -I'm not hopeless when it comes to technology, but I like it when things just work as described without stuffing around in menus and sub-menus to change different settings. From what i've read I wouldn't call it a plug and play unit, but would you call it user friendly?
I guess the biggest downside for me in making this decision is not being able to view the product working in-store so I can make my own assessment.
Thanks for your time

 Re: DVR 76120 questions
I bought one a couple of weeks ago.
The new firmware with GUI2 is much, MUCH better than the previous.
But it still has bugs.
I have found it somewhat easy to configure. It records HD very well. I love my sport and it is doing its job for this. Record two channels and watch one of those, record one and watch another. Or record two and switch over to your TV to watch a third channel. Streaming is good. Mine manages to stream BD rips in 1080 from my network over LAN without too many issues. Recording two shows while attempting to stream off a network...things...can....get.....jumpy....
If you dig around you will see that there are many bugs still happening atm. The firmware release is only a couple of days old. But with just a few fixes I can really see the unit being solid for several years to come.
My biggest gripe and I have posted on a couple of other threads and have contacted A.C Ryan directly about it....is the current state of the EPG. Single day EPG is just not good enough. We still need an answer on this.
I am happy with the unit atm...but it needs some things fixed desperately.
If you are in Melbourne, Scorptec have a few units on display. The HD and miniHD I think. If you call and ask they may set one up for you. But even with that, its performance may vary when you connect it to your home setup.
Mine is good, but it definitely could be better.
