Post Mpd using USB soundcard possible?
Hello all,

I want to try to use my AC Ryan POHD as a mp3 player using mpd.

I am able to install mpd using ipkg but off course I am not able to configure the correct audio_output.
I have red in some threads that people are able to "stream" the audio to there iPhone but I'd like to play the songs on my stereo close to my POHD.

Does anybody know if the kernel used by the POHD supports usb sound playback?
I think it's just a matter of compiling and installing the right kernel driver isn't it?

I am not a Linux expert but maybe there are some here?

Thanks in advance

Ok it seems to be that I am the only one who want´s to play mp3´s using mpd on his POHD. :D

So I need to do it myself. It will not be easy but let´s give it a try.....
I will post my results here so maybe somebody else wanst to join me on this bumpy ride

First lets start with the hardware.

I have a PLAYON HD with mikka´s optware frendly firmware
http://stg.unixstorm.org/playon/about.php

I bought a Soundblaster play USB
http://tweakers.net/pricewatch/259456/c ... 00002.html

Plugged it in my DELL latitude D620 laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 and played some music out of the box :)
Sound quality is way better than the internal intel sound board.
That means at least a recent 2.6 ubuntu kernel supports the soundblaster play.

A few more steps to go ....

I found this interesting url regarding a realtek toolchain
http://www.plugondevice.com/forum/viewt ... p?f=5&t=10
One of the last post a guy has made a vmware virtual machine with a compete toolchain to build your own kernel modules.

I have dowloaded the image from alt.binaries.boneles. I had to install a newgroup reader first since I am a complete NZB noob

I will play a bit with the image and I will let you know the results.

To be continued ......

Please keep us updated: I am very interested in using the POHD as a mpd-jukebox as well (either via some of the audio-outputs or via an external usb-soundcard).

Ok a small update

I found this interesting url:
http://forum.dsmg600.info/viewtopic.php?id=2374

The above url explains what modules I need.

I was able to compile all the required modules but when I try to modprobe the soundcore module I get the next error message:

modprobe: can't load module soundcore (kernel/sound/soundcore.ko): invalid module format

I think I have to build my own toolchain? Could somebody confirm this? Maybe Mikka or WillemB?

Thanks

You have to compile modules against kernel found in PlayOn!HD sources and using compatible mipsel toolchain.

Thanks Mikka,

Could you please give me some hints to build this toolchain?
I am a noob and I want to make this topic to a succes to learn how to crosscompile software and build custom firmwares.

Your help will be appreciated.....

Where you able to build a toolchain and compile it successfully?

I'm looking to get a toolchain so that I can compile my own wifi driver.
