These needs to be fixed:

1. With autoscan on, it doesnt scan perfectly or all the media-files, even if you rescan.
The best way its to power-off the Essential and plug in your external hdd or usb-stick, and then power-on, then it will find all the files.
If you already have the player on, and put a external device on, you can see all the files by going to "files manager", cause it doesn't show if you goes to "Movies-Music-Photo".
My internal harddrive is empty after the format, but still its take 20-30seconds to scan the hdd everytime.
Turn off the autoscan, and just use "Files Manager".

2. It needs faster responding of the remote control to the device, after pressing a button I can take a power-nap before the menu will enter or so...
The respons from the remote-control to the mediaplayer have been fixed.
Not maybe 100%, but its useful now.

3. On my portable harddrive or USB-stick, I have differents folders for each year of pictures/movies.
But still the Essential are showing ALL the pictures/movies, how to sort by folders ??
Just use "Files Manager".

4. There's a few seconds missing of the sound (from start) when playing a movie or music.
Haven't been fixed yet.

5. When trying to play a 1080P HDV.mov-file, the tv goes black and nothing happens when pressing any button.
Need to power off then.
Skip this, the movie had an overall bitrate 108 Mbps, thats way too much.
with a movie installed on the harddrive, it can play up to 90 Mbps, depending on the settings, according to Michael.

6. The subtitles are grey, not white, tried all the color settings.
Haven't been fixed yet.

7. On the main menu, the category goes like this:
Movies
Music
Pictures
File Manager
Setup

It should be:
File Manager
Movies
Music
Pictures
Setup

Because File Manager is the only that shows the mediafiles by folders.
And everybody is sorting their files by folders on their external hdd/usb-device.

8. The mediaplayer should list the files by numbers like this:
1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10 etc

Not like this:
1,10,100,101,102,103,104 and then 2,20,21,22 etc

ZOOM/ RESET and SUBTITLE Issues.

Dzul from Manchester, UK. Had the 2 Terrabyte Essential for 2 months now. Also connected another 2 Terrabyte (WD) and 1.5 Terrabyte (Verbatim) Hard Drives to the USB ports to store about 500 DVDs and Blurays.

All in all very happy with the product but I'm too facing the common problems of the zoom/reset and the non-functioning remote keys for the subtitle sizing and positioning. So can you please send me the software too?

After playing with it daily, agreed with evoline on the issues raised:

1. 'Movies' vs 'File Manager'.
It does not seem to scan the Ext Drives sufficiently for all of it to show up on the 'Movies' unless they are powered up first, though I am certain they show up eventually on the 'File Manager' . In the end the latter is normaly the way to select through the dvds as these are the way they get put in on the computer. 'Movies' are practical in one sense as it identify movies alphabetically but more importantly start the movies immediately; though don't normally show all the titles. I add in a VIDEO_TS folder level before the .vob and the .ifo etc files and most times the titles's are picked on the 'Movies' then!

As the titles start straight away when selected from 'Movies' where as on the 'File Manager' you have to go through all the levels, so for best of both world the 'Movies' should be designed with Folders selection.

2. Zoom/Reset issue
It only occurs for when I installed the Western Drive Ext HD but not the Verbatim; strange! Could be some formats in the WD that PLAYON Essential doesn't like? Everytime it zooms out, if I press the back button it takes me back tot the GUI desktop and be ok. Any other button will make it reset.

3. Slow remote control
I've transferred the functions to a cheap Philips Learning remote with softer keys and they seem to take away the strain of that micro second delay as current keys on the original remote are quite small, close together and very stiff. Agreed with evoline the responses are better. Though compared to the slick PS3 remote response ,that is what AC Ryan should aspire to.

None of these "issues" above have been fixed on the latest firmware v5.0.4.r1794

The new firmware Version v5.4.x r1964.

1. Thumbnail preview is slower than the last firmware and the pictures freezes.
I got all my dvds (vob/ifo) on each seperat folders, and I have a .jpg with the cover of the movie in that too.
So when on the movie list (im only using file manager) it shows all the folders with the cover of each movie, but when pressing down or so, the pictures are not correct, it will not update, it still show the pictures of the movies from the last screen.
It wasnt a problem on the last firmware v5.0.4 r1794_RC1, only on this new one.

2. Hidden folders are shown, $RECYCLE.BIN and bin.wifi
Better have those unseen.

is finally fixed.

Fix these "issues" and im a happy owner, I dont have any receiver, home cinema speakers or using wireless dongle, so I dont know about those problems.

Is it still necessary to turn off ''autoscan'' because on my essential with the latest firmware, scanning still takes hours!
