Post Wake on LAN or something similar is strongly required
Hi,

the new PlayOn!DVR-HD is advertised with the possibility to access it via the internet from anywhere in the world*, but that is useless without Wake on LAN/WAN or something similar. How should the customers use that? Should we switch the device on everyday in the early morning when we leave the house, because it could theoretically be that I have to schedule a recording or may want to access a movie while I'm talking about it with a friend (was also a marketing statement anywhere)?

We need a solution to switch it on via the internet or at least a possibility to set an automatically start- and shutdown-time to have a defined time interval to access it from remote. Could that be realized with a firmware update or is there already a similar solution to solve that problem?

I think one problem to realize Wake on LAN is that the remote control page can't be accessed when the device is switched off, but that could simply be solved with a hosted web application. Are there any hardware limitations which makes it impossible to realize Wake on LAN?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,

Sven S.

There is the need of using the wan connection that it automatically started. The use of in daily life for the work and for the computer both are good.

Actually it is not a problem of scheduling only. The DVR serves as the NAS too. It would be nice to switch it on from another PC in a different room without standing up and getting to the remote control...

+1 vote for the wake on LAN.
