I've been working on a android app, it's basically a remote control for the POHD. The idea started when the battery's of my remote died and i didn't have any spare, i found the remote control web interface and decided to make a android app around that.

I have a somewhat working app now, it has it's share of bugs etc (I'm working on it). But the reason of creating this topic is to see if there is any interest in such app.

So if your interested in such app, of have some idea's of your own please share them. If there's enough interest in this i'll try to clean-up my code and see if i can make a BETA version available. I just started with android development (I have some experience in PHP and C#) so it's been a lot of Trail and Error, and learning new stuff everyday. So the progress can be a bit slow compared to other developers.

For now it has only a couple of features and a very basic GUI (Fixed to a 320x240 resolution).
- Basic Remote Control
- Basic Disk space information
- And a basic movie list

this would be great! does it require a specific firmware version to exist on the POHD?

If you need testers...let me know! I own an HTC Legend.

I'll try to see if i can make it compatible with multiple resolutions this week, it only support 320x240(HTC Wildfire) for now. The required firmware is r3582 and above.

Sounds good- but does it amount to a webpage that any smartphone can navigate to or is it truly an android app?

If the latter, I am very curious to see how you implement it.

Its gonna be a android app, not a webpage. So it will only work on android.

But it should be possible to create a smartphone friendly webpage but you'll need write access to the www_root on the POHD or a webserver in your network for it to function.

Which buttons are really needed for a remote? I'm trying to create all the needed buttons, but which buttons do you use often?

For now my buttons are
- Left, Up, Right, Down, Enter (Middle buttons in the picture)
- Home, Return, Menu, Setup (4 Buttons around the middle in the picture)
- Mute (Top middle in the picture)
- Info (Top right in the picture)
- Poweroff (Top left in the picture)
