Post Re: [Official]POHD MINI PV73200 (SDK3.X) r3582
I've installed the new firmware, but I do notice several issues.
- when using the ThumbGen images, the POHD Mini crashes every now and then....Not at the same image each time, so it's not due to "corrupt" images.
- the menu button doesn't work anymore in MKV's....selecting audiostream/subtitle is very difficult now!
- skipping to certain point in an MKV isn't possible using the left/right buttons

Some other remarks:
- why are highlighted files/folders so dimly "high"lighted, while the "back" button is extremely highlighted when selected?
- why is the option "DVD" the default selected option when choosing "Browse" ? In 99% of the cases there is no DVD reader present......
- why do I have to go to "Browse - Network - Shortcuts - default shortcut"...That way it's not a shortcut.... Why not do enable a "default shortcut" on the home menu ?
- what is the option "mediatheek", and how do I set it up? No info whatsoever available in the GUI...

FInally some advice for AC Ryan and the people working on the new firmwares.
Focus the GUI and menus on non-tech people.
A lot of users just want to watch a movie from a default location, and kids/wives also want to be able to use this device in an easy and intuitive way.
Start by defining the most used use-cases for the POHD Mini, and improve the functionality for those usecases. Focus your energy on those usecases first, before starting to work on the functionality only <20% of the people will be using.

I think there are only 4 really important usecases:
Usecase 1: Play a movie. (80% of the time)
One-click access to the default movieshare (including folderlevel, such as \\server\share\movies\) in ThumbGen/YAMJ style, select movie, hit the play button and the movie plays over the audio output specific for movies, with the default subtitle language and audio format if available. (For example dutch subs and Dolby Digital).
Usecase 2: Listen to music (12% of the time)
One-click access to the default musicshare (including folderlevel, such as \\server\share\music\) in a similar style with album art, select album, hit the play button and the music plays over the default selected output (for example SPDIF instead of HDMI).
Usecase 3: View photos (4% of the time)
One-click access to the default photoshare (including folderlevel, such as \\server\share\photos\) in a similar style with an album preview, select the photoalbum, hit the play button to start a slideshow.
Usecase 4: Listen to internetradio (4% of the time)
One-click access to the default internetradio station, hit the play button to start listening over the default selected output (for example SPDIF instead of HDMI).

Those 4 usecases are the 4 things people will most likely want to do when they turn on the POHD (mini).
Focus on those functions first and make them work easily and after that focus on things such as bittorrent, file copying, NAS functionality etc. If I wanted a NAS I'd have bought a NAS.
At this moment, I would not recommend the POHD (mini) to any of my friends who aren't tech savvy, as the GUI and menus of device do not seem to be focussed on normal users. That's too bad, because I think the device has all that it takes in terms of hardware. It just needs the finishing touch in terms of software.

In new firmware left and right arrow keys decrease / increase the size of subtitles and up and down , move
the subtitles up and down in screen. I think this new point is most usefull from older firmwares.

I am so done with this piece of sh*t. I've spent the past four hours trying to first upgrade (which didn't work, all sorts of crashes, restarts etc) and then trying to unsuccessfully restore it to working order. I have waited and waited for HFS+ support, I was so excited for this update. Tomorrow I am going to go out and use this thing for target practice. I feel like I am stuck back in the late 90s with a temperamental windows machine. My friends have all asked me about the ACRyan box, and I have told them consistently to look at something else. I want something simple and easy to use (that goes for updates too), not an endless source of headaches.

I haven't included any specific information about the unit or what I've tried to do, because I am 100% done with this thing.

Vague information about updates and timetables, etc., from ACRyan... I should have given up much sooner. I am going back to using my laptop and good old fashion DVDs.

Best of luck to everyone else.

Sorry to hear this. I use Mac too and so happy that now Ac Ryan Support HFS+ and after I installed the FW. It works okay will smaller drive than 1.5 TB formated to HFS+. My Mini is easily flashed when upgrade so I'm really not sure what is going on with your Mini. However, If you can give me some detail of what kind of USB device you use to save your fw may be I can help you.

I use a 2.5 external hdd which formated to FAT320 on my mac. and I put the FW on the Drive and save my other files inside one folder so There is only Install.dmg and one folder on my drive. I plug it to my mini turn it on and go to set up and Update FW and that is it. You have to go do something else while it is doing that cause it took like 5 min or more dont touch it.

After that you need to setup all your preference manually.

Can you try to format your USB to Fat and save only FW and try again? or Your Mini just dont do anything now? :dremel:

I see a lot of unhappy people here.
Which is logical in my opninion, because when you bring out a new firmware release people expect an improved version of the previous release.
The r4312 release gave a kind of promise for the new official release. Instead AC-Ryan decided to bring out an official release with much LESS functionality and MORE bugs, not based on the previous release at all!

My suggestion:
Bring out a new official firmware release based on the beta r4312 with bugs fixed.
Keep the r3582 (based on the new Realtek SDK) in BETA untill you have the same (or improved) functionality as the r4312 release.

Allso I get the impression that the people who design/develop the new firmware are more technically oriented then user oriented. It would not hurt to get a GUI design specialist as well...

I agree with most of the people here, the device itself has all it takes to be a good/great media player but with the current firmware releases A.C. Ryan moves into the wrong direction....... To bad, hopefully there will be an update with bug fixes and improved features for Yamj (remember index.htm location and skinning support).

Didn't notice this. Anyone know if the skip-function might have been moved to some other buttons?

AC Ryan should really feel ASHAMED for putting out this official firmware. I installed this one and was hopeful...

... but now I discover it does not play BD folders which previous versions do. Will have to re-install latest beta and configure everything again... argggh

ladies and gents from AC Ryan: I was very content with AC Ryan and HD mini but releasing such a buggy firmware as official while the beta's are much better is a shame and ruining your reputation. Sorry to say.

What happened to all the ideas we came up with ??
All ya'll did was notice and fastforward it to the dev-team, but then what ??

AC Ryan did the same misstake as Microsoft did to Windows Vista, from good (as XP) to problems.

Hope you make a fast update soon, and please listen to our ideas...
Bugsfixes and improvements first, then add things...
