How odd that JPEG progressive DCT could not be supported in the future. At this time, the device does manage a one cycle decode of the JPEG itself, which produces a very low quality picture. It would take more clock-cycles and time, to decode the extra code. But is not more complex, than decoding the first 'layer'. since the JPEG-decoder isn't something hardwired/done by a chip, it's the software. And the hardware does allow such mathematic calculations of this kind of complexity.
So, is it something that Realtek must support or something that could be done by the development team in the future?

Sorry m8 DCT is not going to be supported.
This question was also asked a while ago but the dev team reported this cannot be supported.

I was watching a 720P Blu ray rip yesterday and again was very annoyed by the stuttering in the video.
The problem occurs with MKV's with 23,976fps encoding, apparently the standard for Blu ray (?)

It's like watching a movie on a computer, that's just a bit too slow to decode the video.. Especially with fluent camera moves, it's an annoying detail..

Hoping this will be fixed in the upcoming FW, cause ACR already stated the problem was inherent to the Realtek chipset. So.. let's hope it's solved with the new SDK. If not, I hope ACR can fix this problem in another FW in the near future....

(on Tweakers.net I read a review from a year ago where was stated that this problem would be solved by a new firmware..)

It might also be a problem of your setup. Since I have absolutely no problem at all with playing 720p content even streaming by LAN is no problem.

The only time I experience serious stuttering is when I try to stream high bitrated 1080p content.

It's not a bitrate problem, but a frame rate problem.
I've tried every setting there is, but the problem stays.

Because you don't have or see the problem, I think you use differently encoded files.
Did you check if your files use the mentioned frame rate of 23,976fps? (pressing the "info" button during playback)

I only notice it with moves that should be fluent, but just aren't.
(fast action scenes or just overview scenes)
And it's also no LAN problem, cause I play everything directly from the internal hard drive.

Didn't you notice it when watching Avatar for example?

Almost all my movies and series are at a framerate of 23,976 so that can't be the problem.

Hi Optimus,

One question: What playback setting do you use ? The 23.97 fps movies should be played at 720p 60Hz.(NTSC mode).

I use the "HDMI auto" playback.
But I already tested with all other options... Only, I'm not sure if it's on PAL or NTSC now.. I thought this beta only supports NTSC..

But, the files do play, except for the stuttering. Maybe I have to try some more..

But I keep finding it strange that you two (you and BertXXL) say you don't have any problems while watching.
I really thought it's a Realtek / FW problem which everyone encounters.

@BertXXL: Thanks for your reply too. Like I said, I'm going to test some more then...

I'm not sure now if it's on or off, but I know I've tested it both ways... And then I saw no improvement.
Like I said, I'm surprised that it seems that I'm the only one encoutering this stuttering with these files now.
Even in this forum, I read that the problem was known and Realtek had to come up with a solution.

But ok, going to test it as soon as I can. Thanks.

Hi,

On the forum, you read mostly about serious stuttering, when try to stream, high bitrated 1080p content.
And sometimes (myself included) experiences some micro stuttering when playing those files from internal HDD.

When playing I use the TV/sys button untill I reach the 1080p/60hz that in combination with HDMI Auto and 24p mode on gives the best result for me.
NTSC or PAL makes no difference when you have a LCD, LED or Plasma screen.

See also the following topic (it's for a mini, but it concerns the streaming part) viewtopic.php?f=108&t=7406

Succes
