Post “Convenient for successful afterparty”, Audiovisuelt Norway
Hi all,

Norwegian home entertainment website Audiovisuelt has just reviewed the Playon!HD and Playon!HD Mini, with both players impressing!
Here is a summery of the review in English.

“Convenient for a successful after party”

“Both boxes swallow everything thrown at them smoothly. From traditional .Avi and .Wmv to newer formats .Rmvd, H.264 and VC-1 played without problems Especially nice to see was that even movies in full HD resolution were played via the wireless adapter with no problems, only films with very high bitrate required a network cable. Nice to see that the ISO files are fully supported, both menus and subtitles work like they should with a traditional DVD disc. Like the movie formats, the PlayOn boxes also play most of audio formats. Both .Flac, .Mp3 and .Wav were played without any problems. The boxes playing one's existing music collection is all well and good, but what is far more exciting is the Internet radio feature. VVia a separate menu you can bring up thousands of radio stations, which certainly is convenient for a successful after party.

All in all I am very happy after a month of Playon HD and HD Mini playing. The two boxes behave almost identically, so which one you should choose is largely on one's own preferences. Mini variant comes with no hard disk, and thus has all of the media streamed. However, an external hard drive is of course a possibility. The Playon!HD Mini is marketed as extremely quiet, but if the truth be told, the Playon!HD version does not make much noise either. In fact, dare we say that both boxes are impossible to hear when viewing the TV with the normal volume.

Personally I would have probably chosen the Mini variant, strictly speaking, because I have not had a need for hard disk during the test period. That said, I can also imagine situations where a hard disk can be practical (cram hard drive full of films for example). The price of the two devices also do not deter, with the Playon HD about 1200-1300 kroner while the Mini variant found at a mere 900. They are great prices considering what you get”
