Hi,

Newbie question. I like to have a template that shows a list of movies (for a certain directory) and then when you scroll through the list, you either see left or right, the DVD cover and some small explanation (summary of fanart). Basically I do not like to see only DVD covers on main screen, that makes it not easy to read what you have, or what you are looking for. A combination of a list (text) and some fanart would make it nice.

What template should I use? And do I need to use YAMJ or TVIXIE to make this template work and look nice?

It would be great if some experts on this forum could make a compariosn between the main functions of YAMJ and TVIXIE and how it works out on Playon HD. What templates could be used, quality, speed, etc..

I do not mind to play around and find out myself, but my heavy traveling for work, limits me the time that I can spent on this.

Are you all using TViXiE for series?
I have a lot of series in my movie folder. YAMJ is perfectly capable to add them in the browser.

I'm wondering if TViXiE is also capable.

TVIXIE doesn't seem to do TV series as well as YAMJ or Ember Media Manager

To bad. Your using Ember Media Manager? Do you like it?

Ember works ok but only uses dvd cover art for the folder.jpg It does scrape TV series better than TVIXIE

Right, have spent all day on Tvixie, and for me, it looks better and easier than YAMJ. However, I am stuck.

These are my steps -
I have used Tvixie to create all the metadata. But I am using a Mini and an ext.HDD. Currently, I cannot connect to the Mini over the network (dont know why, I cant seem to enable SAMBA on the Mini, so any advice would be welcome)

I have tried to creating using T2P with the HDD installed on a PC, but reckon that is just messing up all the links, which become irrelevant once the HDD is reattached to the Mini.

So, what can I do? What would the path be from the Mini to an ext.HDD? I feel I am so close...

You will need a reply from those not using an internal HDD to get a real solution, but the T2P should not care where the media is stored. It creates pointers to the media where it is located at that point and as long as the media stays there it will work there.

Now, since you mentioned SMB problems my guess is that you are using a USB HDD that you wish to plug into your mini to play your media. In that case I am afraid you might have an issue with paths that cannot be overcome - each individual rss file for each movie title has a path in it - that would be alot of paths to manually change.


You are going to have to solve your SMB problem or your attached USB HDD problem first and I think this is not the thread to do that in. There are two howTos on this plus quite a few individual posts already. Plus not many have the Mini yet.

Yes, that is what I suspect. I was hoping that there was not that much difference between the Original and the Mini.




I have read the guides, and threads, but my problem is more basic than that - I cannot switch SAMBA on with the firmware I am currently using. Guess I'll try with a non-YAMJ beta, and see what happens. Thanks


EDIT -- Found a solution, although, I cannot believe that I had to do it this way! I installed Mini beta r3615, was able to map my USB HDD as a network drive, and created a Jukebox and index.html file in my Movies folder.
Then I installed the Mini beta r3612, loaded up my index.html file, and everything worked!

Desperately need a Mini firmware (final or beta) that allows me to network my USB HDD and has a Jukebox option. I won't be updating my jukebox until that time

how can i open the jukebox? i dont see any jukebox button on my playon hd?
