@- flashlight,

What you mean Free to Air, are you referring to HD5/HD8 using DVB-T ? Our wall antenna in Singapore are also free to Air channels in analog.

J.

Ah ok, so analog should still be ok as I don't have cable set top box to receive digital HD programs. By Free To Air I mean no cable subscription programs like normal Ch5, Ch8, CNA, etc.

Any idea if analog will be totally phased out in Singapore later? If so by when? Thanks.

Unlikely it would be totally phased out. Not in the near future.

Hi,

I'm from Singapore.

1) Will Dual DVBT be able to record analog programmes via the set top box of Starhub/Mio?

2) Will Dual DVBT be able to record programmes if there are 2 set top box from Starhub and Mio (Though MDA recently announced that both service providers must carry contents from each other.

3) What if I do not have any set top box at all! Will I be able to use the Dual DVBT to record analog programmes? I.e. using analog antenna (espcially external antenna) to trasmit signal and then do the recording?

4) My HD TV already comes with digital tuner. How will it help and enhance or affect the pure viewing and also recording of the TV programmes?

5) Since Singapore has'nt gone full HD yet, which means that there is no digital antenna installed in most of our unique homeland, instead we have to 'payp' for 'free' to air HD5/8 via cable service providers. Is there any test being done on the digital reception on using portable digital antenna?

Lastly, I am a World Cup fan...... You know what I mean1?

It will be really helpful if you could enlighten us!

Thanks in advance!

Cheers!

@- Smokey881,

1.) No. You can only record using AV-in Source. You can record from set top box using AV-Out (Set top box) to AV-In (DVR-HD). Recording would be under 576I instead. (For those having Hubstation HD, if you're tuning in HD channel, definitely the recorded clip will not be in HD format due to AV-In.) The channel that you wish to record must remain the same during the recording.

2.) No.

3.) No. You need Analog Tuner.

4.) No. It will not affect or enhance your viewing or recording.

5.) Yes. Applies to certain area. (HD coverage still limited based on locations.)

Most of us have confusion with DVB-T and paid subscription set top box from Starhub or Mio. In Singapore, there are two types of free to air channels that can be received using DVB-T tuner.

A) Analogue channels such as 5, 8, CNA broadcast in digital format - Previously we have TV-Mobile but it is no longer in service since start of this year.
B) HD5 broadcast in H.264 - This is purely based on area coverage as broadcasting station is located at west side of Singapore.

Dual DVB-T tuner would not aid us, as in Singapore - we have limited choice for the channels unlikely countries in Europe area that has 20 or more digital broadcast channels which is free to air.

For Starhub - the set top box comes with a decoder inside which allow to decode the signals (mostly encrypted) from wall point. The broadcast signal still comes from the Starhub Cable point in your apartment/flat not via the Air. So having DVB-T doesn't mean that you're able to get channels such TVBJ or MTV, ESPN after you tune in using DVR-HD plus Digital Antenna provided.

For MIO - the set top box relies on your Internet. It is a service using Internet as a platform. Then again those signal doesn't come or broadcast over our roof.

You can refer to >this< for a better understanding for HD5.

Hope this helps.

J.

Thanks for the clarification!

Any idea when the stock for the pre-ordered PV-75100 from the IT Show will be in? Heard that there's a delay in the shipment....

For France DUAL DVBT will be fine.

What about Audio EAC3 / DD+ used here for DVB-T transmissions ? Do the product support it?

For non HD amplier, do the product convert it in AC3 ? on which output HDMI, SPDIF ?
