A.C. Ryan staff explain please what you changed, because after the format of the new firmware r3400 partition table is the same as on the r2901, many do not want to lose the data on a partition ntfs(sda1), because we need think about the format only a partition sda3 :!:

First download the zip file containing the firmware:

    " FW R3400 fifth yamj Trial "

Try to use a usb stick which is formated as either Fat32 or Fat.
unpack the zip file with the firmware on your computer,
and copy the unpacked "install.img" to the usb stick.

after this you have to upgrade to r3400_(European)_YAMJ_Trial by the setup menu of your player.
go to "setup-->system-->system upgrade-->select upgrade system
after this is done, go and remove the partitions.

Now we have to remove the partitions

    It`s a bit of work.

First connect your playonhd to your pc by using the delivered usb-cable.
Then when after approxymately 30 seconds windows sees the drive.

Remember!! You`ll have to make a backup of all you`re data couse it will be lost.

    After this,
You go to start, then point your mouse on the icon computer or my computer,
(depending wich windows version you have) then right click on this icon.
there will be a menu rolled out in this menu you select management or managing.
(i`m not sure i translated it right),

Once this is opened find storage open it and select disk management.
Then search in this window for the disk from the playon.

Like drive 7 in this example picture.

    Attachment:
    hdd1-partition.JPG

There you see on this disk four partition`s.
    Remove them all !!!!!

After it is done disconnect your playon and connected it back to your tv-set.

Then after the Playon is connected again to the TV screen,
it will ask for a format HDD here you confirm.
if for any reason the question does not come then
go to "setup-->system-->hdd format" and press the ok button on your remote,
it`s the one in the middle of the four arrow buttons.
    now select to format HDD1.
    and again press ok.
    and confirm the question asked.

;)

Dirk, or any other person who can help.
Im trying to do step 7 of the "Setting_up_YAMJ" walktrough, but how to download thw "YAMJ GUI Config (ACR) v0.93.zip" file ?

A left click will result in:
Page not found
The requested page could not be found.

A right click --> Save link as, will result in a empty .zip file of 6.11kb......

Hope someone can help.....

@mauspartyhouse,
why not asking that question in the topics where the links are?

cause i think you mean topic`s:

" [HOW TO] YAMJ werkend te krijgen in de Trial firmware " (dutch)
" How to use and setup the YAMJ trial version." (englisch)

but then again those links in these topic`s to, YAMJ GUI Config (ACR) v0.93.zip,
do work.

see point 8 in those topic`s:

8. Download Yamj Gui here.

(or here just for your convenience i put it here now as well ;) )

I agree. It looks like the partition table is the same. Maybe the only change is in the content in sda3, i.e. in /tmp/hdd/root. Can someone do "tar -czvf root.tgz /tmp/hdd/root" after formatting HDD in firmware3400 and post the link to the created tar file?

Others can then untar the file into the same directory in their HDD and then install firmware3400 w/o formatting.

This might be a workaround to benefit from the improved startup time w/o having to re-format HDD.

this topic is meant as a help for those who wants to format,
if you don`t then don`t.
but stay on topic please,
this topic is for explaining how to do so.
it is not a discussion board.
sorry

and for all who are still not sure if or if not to format.
the format will bring some speed in the startup of the playonhd.
for example.
without the format it is possible that the message "HDD1 plugin"
will stay on your screen for over 20 to 30 seconds.
with the format it stays on there for aproximately 5 to 10 seconds.

the going trough the menu`s is a bit faster after the format.
so is the connection between the network as well.
and i mean with getting the login succesfull message.

in the speed between copying from my pc to playonhd
i Had no more speed then before.
it is about 5MB/s and sometimes arround 5,89MB/s.

finding the index file from Yamj did improve after the format.

so it does seems that after the format the pohd handles
the internal HDD much better then without one.

just gave a few noticeable changes here to help you all decide in what to do.

;)
