A.C. Ryan staff explain please what you changed, because after the format of the new firmware r3400 partition table is the same as on the r2901, many do not want to lose the data on a partition ntfs(sda1), because we need think about the format only a partition sda3

I agree. It looks like the partition table is the same. Maybe the only change is in the content in sda3, i.e. in /tmp/hdd/root. Can someone do "tar -cvf root.tar /tmp/hdd/root" after formatting HDD in firmware3400 and post the link to the created tar file?
Others can then untar the file into the same directory in their HDD and then install firmware3400 w/o formatting.
This might be a workaround to benefit from the improved startup time w/o having to re-format HDD.
this topic is meant as a help for those who wants to format,
if you don`t then don`t.
but stay on topic please,
this topic is for explaining how to do so.
it is not a discussion board.
sorry
and for all who are still not sure if or if not to format.
the format will bring some speed in the startup of the playonhd.
for example.
without the format it is possible that the message "
HDD1 plugin"
will stay on your screen for over 20 to 30 seconds.
with the format it stays on there for aproximately 5 to 10 seconds.
the going trough the menu`s is a bit faster after the format.
so is the connection between the network as well.
and i mean with getting the login succesfull message.
in the speed between copying from my pc to playonhd
i Had no more speed then before.
it is about 5MB/s and sometimes arround 5,89MB/s.
finding the index file from Yamj did improve after the format.
so it does seems that after the format the pohd handles
the internal HDD much better then without one.
just gave a few noticeable changes here to help you all decide in what to do.
