just leave it blank and see if that works.

also rename your entire network to "workgroup".
make sure that the shares do not include strange signs in their names.
like: "video`s" instead of "video" .
also in the advanced setting under the home and work network.
enable "let windows handle the network" insread of "control network by account and password".
and one other thing disable guest and welcome screen if it is used.

;)

Hi, thanks for the prompt reply. Yeap, I did try to leave the user name and password blank. And still logon failed.

I don't really understand your replied below;
also rename your entire network to "workgroup".
make sure that the shares do not include strange signs in their names.
like: "video`s" instead of "video" .

Thanks.

it was if you had take care of it:
so :

is your network called "workgroup" or is it something else? (in windows and the router)
the folders you are sharing in windows should not have strange signs in their names.
like: " _ - ' ` . , [ ] ( ) " etcetera.
the advanced setting is the place where Harro tells to do some settings he made a picture of it,
there you can choose for "public" as well as "home and work"
in the "home and work" there is also the option i mentioned.
plus in the "public" switch on media server option and choose in that setting
the music and video and image folders as well.

and try not to use the guest account and
not the welcome screen when you boot up windows.
so without asking a loginname and password windows should
end on the desktop when it is finished the startup.

hope I explained it better now.

;)

Hi, my network is called network. I found the workgroup after network from my ac ryan player.
The folder name is just movie and nothing else.
I probably have the idea now where I could locate the "home and public work"
Wondering how could I disable the welcome screen from my windows 7??
I will try again when I return. Thanks again and have a nice weekend.

you as well a very nice weekend,

the welcome screen can be switched on or off under configuration screen--> accounts.

and best is to rename the network to "workgroup" because the playonhd is in workgroup and
this can not be changed.
so in order to get everything in the same network ,
you need to rename the rest as workgroup.

;)

Post Re: [HOW TO] Share Folders on Windows 7 with youtube tutorial
I've located the problem, but can't find the solution.

If I allow outbound connections in Win 7 firewall, I can access my shares from Playon. If I block outbound connections, I can see the shares, but can't log into them.

The problem is, I can't create a rule that can allow Playon to access the shares yet block other connections.
I've tried Connection security rules to disable authentication between Win 7 machine and Playon, I've set up a rule to allow all ports and protocols between local IP's, but no success.

Any help appreciated.

it should be possible to make a rule purely based on a local ip adress or even
better the local network range or for users.

see the advanced settings for windows firewall and search for the ip -sec.
there is an option (i believe it was tunneling) which you select advanced to make a user or ip number (or other computer),
which tells the firewall that it may connect always.
