Hy Guys!

I'm totally new to the whole "PlayOn HD" family. I'm very eager to know more about different firmware and improved features. I'm facing different problems, not sure how to solve them.

I can connect to my device via Telnet,
I can access my Device via LAN.
but while trying to copy files to the internal hdd my PC freezes with bluescreen after some time..
When I'm trying to connect my device via USB to the same PC, the device is not recognized, any other device on the same USB-Hub on the PC is recognized and working probably. (e.g. external hdd)

I already installed newest firmware and all plugins, such as samba although I dont need torrent but newsgroups.

My questions in short: Why is the connection breaking/my PC "bluescreening" while copying? I already turned off the "Datapackager".
What do I need to do, to get new developed features to my PlayOn HD, such as newsgroup instead of torrent?

I appreciate every help, even if you just direct me to the right Sub-threads.

Best regards
Rekoo

Quite important to know which latest version id you install? Please report the revision number here. If it is r2901 I think you'd do well searching the forum for problems regarding copying files over samba, I think one of the moderaters and some more users, encountered problems copying files over Samba. After upgrading the firmware to the beta firmware, all Samba related problems were gone.

Connecting your device without the USB Hub would the first thing I would try to see if it is the HUB causing the problems. Did you already try that? So directly connecting the PlayonHD to the USB port of your PC.

And for adding additional tools to your PlayOnHD you would need PlugOnDevice: viewforum.php?f=96
Not sure if there is newsgroup support, although I do seem to remember there is a NZB downloader available. Be sure to read the sub forum properly though because there are some catches to it, especially with the latest betas and trials.

thanx azalin for your answer

with USB-Hub I mentioned not an "external" USB-Splitter, but the System-Controller. There are 2 ports to connect devices, these are directly plugged to my MoBo. The DeviceManager in W-XP is recognizing the hub, but not the device.

Lastest version is European: Firmware Ver. v7.06.r2901 directly from homepage. Futhermore I installed
btpd_0.0.1_mipsel.ipk
samba_3.0.23c_mipsel.ipk
unicgi_0.0.1_mipsel.ipk
*edit: I update to v7.0.6_r3294_European.zip*

Regarding the samba-copy issue I found: "you are not able to copy files from pc to playonhd larger then 145MB over the samba" [viewtopic.php?f=42&t=4565&start=0&hilit=copying+files+over+samba]

Is there any bypass for not using Samba? I dont want to deMount my HDD everytime to copy 2GB files.

I already tried PlugOnDevice, but it can't get PlugIns installed. So I thought first to install a beta firmware to get plugins running. Do I just need to replace my old firmware with the beta-one?

Thanx in advance
Rekoo

I think your best bet would be to update the firmware to one of the betas. Thing is, I never encountered any copying problems over Samba. You could also try NFS by the way, check the FAQ and HOW TO section on how to set up and use NFS.

Regarding the POD not installable, you need to make room in the firmware before you can install POD. ACRyan maxed the space out and even though there is space left, you don't have access to it cause the POHD thinks there isn't any more room. You would need to modify the firmware ourself, or download one of the modified firmwares from the modding section: viewforum.php?f=98&start=0

For a how to on using and adding space to r2981: viewtopic.php?f=98&t=3530

again, thanx

So I have to decide between beta releases and hacked ones?
the benefit of the hacked ones is the optware usage, right?
the beta's are providing additional features, not implemented in the original-software?

tried the beta, now giving the hacked one a shot

thanx

If you want and need POD then your only option is indeed a hacked one. If you need Samba, you need a beta indeed. Although the r2981 is quite stable and fixes many problems. There is however a newer beta out there. I am currently on a YAMJ trial firmware, when a new YAMJ trial is available I will update to that one. But that is a whole different story :) Remember, if you run into any problems after updating the firmware, problems that seem unfixable like crashing during startup, consider doing a manual firmware update: Place the install image on a FAT32 formatted USB stick, make sure only the install image (and if needed the extension packages) is on the stick and in the root of the USB stick. Make sure the POHD is turned off (red status light), insert the USB stick, press the power button and keep it pressed for about 6 seconds. You should see a message saying it is about to install the firmware. I usually let go after I have seen the screen where it says it is going to install the firmware. I actually upgrade the firmware always in this manner. Only drawback is that you loose any settings you have. But since there aren't many settings I have changed, this is ok for me. Only thing I really need to do is set the audio to RAW and give the POHD an IP address everything I update manually.

Azalin,

If u can tell me how to copy a file from my PC to POHD using NFS, u get the prize :).
I have manged to configure an NFS server on my W7, and see some movies over the wireless network using NFS, but in the source-destination copy menu NFS is not present.

So u know other way how i can do?

10x!

Mmm, unfortunately I do not use POD, maybe ask in the POD forum to see if they can help you there. Glad to be of any help and I hope you'll solve the problem. Or at least figure out what ails :)
