Re: [HOW TO] install optware and get transmission, twonky
Hi EelcoH, I think these problems are all related to the normal firmware. I've seen many topics about the missing extensions, and the home-directory isn't set in the default firmware.

Re: [HOW TO] install optware and get transmission, twonky
So, I'm back. Erased the harddrive (using Windows diskmanager). Cold flashed the Official Firmware Version v7.06.r2901 and formatted the HD. Seems to have flashed ok, the menu shows. Made networksettings ans turned Samba and BTPD on. Rebooted. Telnet session works. Still get the message: Code: PlayonHD login: root warning: cannot change to home directory BusyBox v1.1.3 (2009.09.24-05:32+0000) Built-in shell (ash) Enter 'help' for a list of built-in commands.
Samba seems not to work ;-( (device is not visible on network) and 'Torrent client is not running' shows on http://playonhd/cgi-bin/webtorrent.cgi. But: allways look on the bright side: I have a new firmware..... But now...

Re: [HOW TO] install optware and get transmission, twonky
Code: warning: cannot change to home directory This is a warning message in all firmwares... I fixed that in my optware because I only want error/warning messages when there's something wrong.... After you upgrade the firmware you will lose optware and also that fix, so you will get that warning message back (not a big deal, really)... The POHD then needs at least one other reboot before you can put it fully in service because it does some system changes after its initial boot.

Re: [HOW TO] install optware and get transmission, twonky
Hi frater, Apologies for the newbie question, I'm a unix-virgin (long time Mac & Win victim) I followed your instructions exactly: 1) Telnet connected to POHD fine 2) Run commands in first post fine 3) after last command , I get an error saying the program can't find /etc/protocols; it then quits back to the telnet prompt I'm a bit lost to be honest! Ultimately all I'm after is Transmission Running r2901-European firmware on a clean install. ** EDIT 08/01/10@16h54 GMT+1 ** Managed to answer my own question I think (at least it worked for me) with a bit more digging a fairly big leap of faith )I couldn't see this written in the forum at all, but I only spent an hour looking): If you are using r2901-European firmware, you need to actually use the hacked version, r2901h: http://www.acryan.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=3530&start=40 (see post 3 on this 3rd page) Install this hacked firmware, then run optware as instructed.

Hi Frater,
Excelent job, your scripts (and NSLU2's software distribution of course) really added a lot of value to my POHD!
One question though: under which licence are you distributing these scripts? Is it some kind of open source license or just public domain? I'm not sure because I havent been able to find any note about licensing inside your scripts.
Regards,
Guido

Re: [HOW TO] install optware and get transmission, twonky
Ok, I'm back online and so is the POHD. Cleared the HDD and did a cold upgrade with the latest firmware. BTPD and Samba did not install but that was fixed width the installation of the extension package (link) http://www.acryan.com/downloads/PV73100_Extension_Package.zip. Now everything works like a charm again. Next stop: try the POD-installer again I suppose. Now I know how to undo my mistakes... Thanks y'all. Eelco

Eelco I'm wondering what people, in particular you, mean with "cold" upgrade, did it read in other posting also, the word "cold" flashing etcetera Is that another way of installing the firmware then from the POHD menu option "Upgrade System"? Cheers Kees
