Re: [HOW TO] Update your Firmware
Tried to update the firmware using both methods in the first post. It says installation ok...it reboots but it never gets to the menu. LED stays blue...but no menu. Tried to update Firmware Ver. v7.06.r1757. Used both methods from first post!
Tried using usb and root hdd. Both did not work. Getting back to previous firmware is not a problem. Do I perhaps need to install others things before updating?
*UPDATE*
Found the solution which I read somewhere else on the forum. Hitting the button TV SYS. on the remote control did the trick. Perhaps the first post can be changed, to improve the faq.

Re: [HOW TO] Update your Firmware and extensions
Tried to flash back from 2510 to 2388 with USB flash drive...No luck...System down... Emergency flash - no luck! Device did not submit life signs, only a sign "PlayON!HD" working HDD and fan, LED indicator is off... In a couple of minutes I understood my error - USB stick (16Gb) was formatted in NTFS to store big files. And it is not visible for device while flashing. Tried another USB stick with FAT32 - ALL IS OK. So you should add another one point - FOR THE FIRMWARE FLASH USE ONLY DRIVE FORMATTED IN FAT32

Re: [HOW TO] Update your Firmware and extensions
I got my PlayonHD a few weeks ago and had a terrible time getting it to update firmware correctly. Every time I flashed it something would not work. One time it would be one menu in the setup, another time it would be internet radio, another time copy. Each time if I would select the non-working option the device would hang and after about 30 seconds restart. I did some testing and think I have come down with the reason for the issue and thought I would share in case someone else runs into it.
Each time I used the same USB thumb drive. If I would re-flash without changing the contents of the drive, the same feature would be broken. If I formatted the thumb drive and copied the firmware file over to it again it would be a different menu option that caused the freeze and restart.
The problem seems to be the thumb drive itself. I tried using an SD card and got a clean firmware install with no issues. So if you are having issues getting a firmware to install, try a different thumb drive, or us a SD card.

Re: [HOW TO] Update your Firmware and extensions
This is so frustrating, just received my Playon HD today, and can not get it to load up. The most I have got and it was one time only, was a blue screen saying AC Ryan, since then I don't get anything just my black tv screen waiting for a connection.
I have tried the force firmware on both a USB stick and a SD card, I didn't have either, so I have just been out and bought both, also reformatted the USB stick to Fat 32, but that has made no difference.
Is their anything else I should be trying? I have got to be honest I think it is pretty lousy that the machine doesn't work first time out of the box and that you have to resort to these measures, it really lowers my confidence in this product.

How is your player connected to your TV screen? When it is HDMI try the TV sys button on your remote a couple of times until you have the PHD screen on your TV.

So far I have tried it with HDMI, the red green blue cables, and the yellow white and red cable, each time making sure that they were the only ones connected to the box and the TV, I will try the sys button, but not holding out much hope.

No luck there, but I have noticed that the power symbol is not completely blue, and that the first portion of the incomplete circle is red, does this mean anything, or is it meant to be like this?

Re: [HOW TO] Update your Firmware and extensions
Seeing a couple of people having problems with updates through the menu, I keep wondering, isn't it better to update the system through the "manual" way? Which is better? The manual way or the system menu -> update way?

Re: [HOW TO] Update your Firmware and extensions
Either method of updating the firmware would be nice!
I can't even get the blue AC ryan screen back on my tv, I have tried all 3 cables provided and two different tv's, this is very frustrating for something I have just shelled £200 on (incl HD which I haven't connected yet).
I still cant get my head round the machine not working first time out of the box, like every single other piece of electronic equipment that I by.
