Re: [HOW TO] get free space on root with r2891 for optware
Hi, I have no idea why you're having those problems.
In previous firmwares, I decided to shrink a liitle bit the NTFS partition, move the ext3 and swap back that same bit and use the remaining space to create a ~50G ext3 partition on the end of the disk (made sure it was recognized in gparted as partition 4). Then I added a mount command in the Transmission startup script to mount the partition, and reconfigured settings.json to perform the downloads there. I also reformatted the NTFS partition on a Windows Vista machine. I never got the PHD trying to reformat my HDD.
This stopped all filesystem corruption and the related crashes. I got the feeling that writing on NTFS was not the strongest point of the PHD...
Now, I'm talking about Transmission crashes, not PlayonHD hangs, as that was only solved with r2891 firmware (actually r2510 was also better).
So yes, I'd recommend using ext3 for your downloads. I don't think that having only 4% of space available is the issue (although I think you can change that by changing the number on the line you add to configuration.xml).
You're probably only suffering consequences from previous corruptions on the filesystem...
Good luck.

Re: [HOW TO] get free space on root with r2891 for optware
Hi kawakinho, Thanks for sharing the install.img file. One question before installing it.
/tmp/hdd/root/script # df -h Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/root 73.3M 73.3M 0 100% / /dev/mtdblock/2 8.0M 1.4M 6.6M 17% /usr/local/etc /dev/rd/0 40.0k 40.0k 0 100% /mnt/rd /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 1.4T 24.6G 1.3T 2% /tmp/ hdd/volumes/HDD1 /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 151.9M 29.4M 114.7M 20% /tmp/ hdd/root /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc 3.8G 3.3G 513.8M 87% /tmp/u sbmounts/sdb
This is my current status of disk-usage. As you can see /dev/root is 100% used. My internal disk is 1,5 TB and currently used for 24,6 GB.
With installing your file do i do first a repartition or a format to free-up space for the root volume?
Kind regards Toon

Re: [HOW TO] get free space on root with r2891 for optware
Hi, you don't need to do anything... Bear in mind that the default root filesystem is an image loaded from the device's flash memory, not from the hard drive. That's why I added that line in the configuration.xml: to make the image on flash memory bigger than the size of the data. When the system mounts it, it will then have some free space available. As for the disk: there's one partition on it which is around 157MB: Code: /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 151.9M 29.4M 114.7M 20% /tmp/hdd/root As you can see, there's plenty of space available, don't worry. Just stick the usb key in the unit and upgrade the firmware - if you run into trouble, do a manual upgrade with an official release to get back to a good state. Enjoy Note: After the upgrade, you still need to install @frater's solution or @buzzkaido's PlugOnDevice yourself... Regs,

Kawakinho, Thanks! Can you please share the HACKED-2891 another way because can't download it from RapidShare. Full day they report overloaded server to download free. I think they want to start the year with new paying members.
Kind Regards, Toon

Re: [HOW TO] get free space on root with r2891 for optware
Hi Kawakinho, I downloaded the file and installed it on the POHD. Resulted in the following :
/ # df -h Filesystem Size Used Available Use% Mounted on /dev/root 77.6M 74.4M 3.2M 96% / /dev/mtdblock/2 8.0M 1.4M 6.6M 17% /usr/local/etc /dev/rd/0 40.0k 40.0k 0 100% /mnt/rd /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part1 1.4T 26.5G 1.3T 2% /tmp/ hdd/volumes/HDD1 /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 151.9M 29.7M 114.4M 21% /tmp/ hdd/root /dev/scsi/host2/bus0/target0/lun0/disc 3.8G 3.3G 513.8M 87% /tmp/u sbmounts/sdb
3,2 MB available on /dev/root. I expected it would be more. Do i do something or do i misunderstand the logic.
Kind regards, Toon

Re: [HOW TO] get free space on root with r2891 for optware
You just need to be able to create some links, so a few kB free should be enough. When installing optware, you create the links from root to the ext3 partition on the internal HDD, so you don't need any space other than for the links themselves. I installed optware (from @frater) perfectly like this and other people confirm it works also with PlugOnDevice All the programs and utilities go to that HDD partition /dev/scsi/host0/bus0/target0/lun0/part3 mounted on /tmp/hdd/root

@Kawainho : if you want, I can host the hacked firmware on the PlugOnDevice repository.
