Post eSATA PCMCIA winXP hangs... please help
Hey all...
(please be advised, i am not talking about the express card here, thx)
2 days ago bought the aSATA PCMCIA / eSATA 2.5" drive, but have not been able to get it working at all, whenever the card is inserted, winXP just hangs, either at the boot screen when the card is inserted before power on, or after boot everything freezes once the card is inserted.

The actual moment the card causes the freeze is when the 2 blue lights on the card light up, i have d/loaded the drivers on the website, but to no avail.

I then tried it in 2 other laptops, both NEC and exactly the same thing happened.

I then took the card/box back to the local supplier, who saw the problem on my machine, tried it on an acer and voila, it worked, either way he swapped the pcmcia card over with what we both agreed was a working version (on his acer) even though i DID try it there on my machine and again it would NOT work, i said i would investigate further and they gave me 3 days to either return for refund or replace the unit.

So now i have a timeline issue and would appreciate any help...

Many thanks in advance

Oh dear, guessed I might be late to reply on this.
Anyway, we have recently uploaded a new driver to our drivers section.
http://www.acryan.com/downloads/custom/driver/eSATA_PCMCIA.zip

You may want to ensure that the eSATA PCMCIA card is inserted after the eject lever is returned to it's original position when you remove the dummy PCMCIA card?

Thx Eugene, but i downloaded/installed the drivers u mentioned, but no luck... laptops still hang as soon as blue leds light up on pcmcia card. (i bit the bullet and held onto the card past the 3 day limit btw).

Tried:

Insert before power-up... hangs at winxp boot screen /when blue leds light up.

Insert before power-up w/drive powered and attached (powered either from usb port or ext. p/supply)... hangs at winxp boot screen /when blue leds light up.

Insert after power-up... everything hangs, stays hung even after removing pcmcia.

Insert after power-up w/drive powered and attached (powered either from usb port or ext. p/supply)... everything hangs, stays hung even after removing pcmcia/drive/both.

...incredibly frustrating.

any ideas?... anyone???

cheers
zill

Hi all,
Sorry for any inconvenience guys. If still error occurs after installing the driver and following the procedure at the top (Eugene's post) you can try to write to tech@acryan.com

Okay, so i now start seeing some others in the same mess. Let me just say this, check your cardbus version on your laptop, one thing that ACRYAN does NOT mention on the box as far as i am aware is that the cards chipset will not work with certain pcmcia slots (pcmcia chipsets/whatever) i found this out the hard way by buying a different brand pcmcia card (hunted everywhere to find one with different chipset) and viola!! it worked, so i still have an ACRYAN card, anyone wanna buy it? hahahaha

maybe i shoulda gone to SITEX (hate expo's) to get a refund??

my other card was a generic el cheapo btw (sorry am not at home to let you know chipsets/brands etc), just find out the chipset used on the ACRYAN and buy anything else.

No offence intended, but hey guys, a bit more pre-release "i-dotting and t-crossing" would save customers a lotta grief.

Need a pre-release tester?? =) (not joking)

If anyone can correct me, please do...

Zill

yeah...i jus got the card to work! so i share out how i done it.

1. install the latest driver. so just click yes to restart.
2. after restart n reach desktop, i just push in my pcmcia esata card. as usual, it will hang. but after hang for few seconds, BSOD came out, "Machine check exception", it than restart itself.[i didn't enable automatic restart after BSOD in my setting, so dunno y it wil auto restart.] BTW i still leave the card in there.
3. so the com jus restart, after bios, when the win xp loading bar start to run, it hangs. but than after it hang awhile, it continues to run! wooh... [normally it will just hang n than restart again, which it will never reach desktop when the card still inside].
4. so than blue led light up all the way to desktop. when reaches desktop, it start to auto install the driver, so successfully installed the driver, the blue led than turn off.

so i check device manager, yup it is there. n also i try plug in my hdd, n it works as per normal.

BTW my laptop is acer. so i not sure whether those people having is using acer or other brand?

zillerman also right, some card chipset jus dont work wit certain pcmcia slot. but well, i make it work! mayb is a rough way..

*something to add, remember to go to right side of taskbar and Safety Remove Hardware. so next time when u insert the card, it shld work like usb n not hang! :D

I've just got the same problem with my Dell Latitude D620. It uses an O2Micro OZ6912/601/711E0 Cardbus controller. When it locks up it seems to be burning a lot of power, because if I leave it on for a while then eventually the computer overheats and switches itself off. It works in an older Dell Inspiron 8200 that uses a TI PCI-4451 controller.

Is there any hope?
