Hi.

I was told there was guide to this here on the forum, but I´m not able to find it.

The thing is that I will be using an external USB drive with my AC Ryan device. The 3 TB WD is fornatted with 2 partitions Ext3 which Windows Vista cant read or write.

Any idea that can help me to solve this issue?

You could try to run VirtualBox with any Linux distribution. That way you should have access to your drives, have a real Ext3 implementation instead of a windows driver (these are not really good from what I've read) and you don't have to switch your OS (boot manager etc.). Apparently it's not too hard to set up and there are plenty of operating systems available. Check http://virtualboxes.org/

You can use Ext2IFS or Ext2FSD to access ext3 filesystems, I've used Ext2IFS successfully, just make sure you read the notes on journalling and clean unmounting, friends use FSD but I've not used it personally.

Alternatively, if you don't fancy installing a driver there's a number of Windows apps, try Explore2fs or Linux Reader.

This was a bit to technical for me...

I decided to try using Windows since the "specs" says it can read NTFS. Divided the 3 TB disk into 2 x 1,5 TB partitions. Quick format as NTFS.

Copied 1 movie to each partition, connected it to the Essential and it works!



PS: Not quite sure why I should use Ext3...

If you ALWAYS connect your external hard drive to your PC for file manipulations (copying, moving, deleting), there is no need to use the Ext3 file system on your drive.
The NTFS driver of the Playon is faulty and may corrupt your drive when you write files to your hard drive with the Playon (e.g. copy from the internal to the external hard drive or vice versa).

If it fail I have a copy of the .ISO files and can copy them again.
