Post Shame on you, AC Ryan
My PlayonHD is just over a year old and I am terribly disappointed that AC Ryan will not provide any further firmware or support to this unit. This POHD has been problematic since day 1, and despite several firmware updates, is still buggy.

Shame on AC Ryan for the lack of support and commitment to its customers; that's not the way to build a business. In stark contrast, my 4 year old Panasonic Bluray player just got a firmware update a few months ago!

I regret having bought another AC Ryan product a few months ago - the Veolo; I will never buy another AC Ryan product!

That's one of the problems I have with the discontinuation. The products are still being sold (Amazon etc.) without any mention of this. As a single customer your chances are slim to do something about it. A better way would be to go to your vendor and explain the situation. After all, he is the one selling these players. Maybe he will reconcider selling AC Ryan products when he gets this kind of feedback or at least he can contact his importer. It's all about leverage and hitting them where it hurts, the money. Any feedback from people who have tried to contact AC Ryan or their vendor?

jchoong,

I'm sorry to hear about your feedback.

The product you purchased is over 3 years old. Normally consumer electronics get about 2 years of support. This is a company management decision and in general this will happen with all our products after 2 years or more.

Best regards,

Sorry Mikael, but I think you got it all mixed up. Yes, consumer electronics get 2 years of warranty but that is from the moment you buy it NOT from the moment it was put on the market! The Mini1 and HD1 are still for sale without any hint of this, even you homepage still says "regular firmware update".
Look here for more EU warranty rules:
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-1677034/Two-year-warranty-EU-law.html
I think the checklist applies for many users who have had their player for less than 2 years. The "reporting the fault within two months of discovering it" can even be tracked by your forum, also the fact that improvements were promised but not quite delivered. Sure, the retailer will be quite annoyed when people demand their money back, but I think the retailers will be in touch with you guys about your little stunt costing him money.

Hi Vanhal,

Of course you have hardware warranty for 2 years even if you would buy it today from a re-seller. This is not to be confused with the discontinued support. This basically just means no more firmware, nothing else.

Best regards,

Read the article again:
Quote:
the law says that retailers must sell goods that are 'as described, fit for purpose and of satisfactory quality'.

No mention about hardware whatsoever, the product should do what it was supposed to do.
Quote:
If a defect is detected when, or in a reasonable period of time after, the sale is made, then buyers can demand a full refund.

If you don't want to make it "fit for purpose" by supplying a proper (NOT beta!!) firmware, then customers could get a refund. All bug reports are nicely stored in the forum, especially the NTFS problems has been known for ages now and a solution was offered but declined. I don't care if a company stops its support after two years, but there should have been a proper product along the way and this is obviously not the case here. But I'm sure no employee of AC Ryan can be convinced by some posts on their forum.
