 zero bytes files and lost files
Hi all, I've read the messages here: viewtopic.php?f=25&t=17472&hilit=zero+byte&start=80 but as the last entry was in January and the topic locked I had to start a new thread. As a relatively happy pohd user (still feels like all the software is a beta...) I'm now suffering the zero byte file problem. I copy using FTP and have previously just drag and dropped in via windows 7 as well as occasionally physically connecting via USB. The thread above suggest there is no work around and it's with the developers. Can we get an update please? I'm doubtful I'm the only one still running with this issue. thanks in advance, Paul

 Re: zero bytes files and lost files
There is no update yet for the first series of Playon!HD. There is a beta firmware for the HD2 which should resolve the issue, but seemingly has other issues. So, at the moment there is little progress. Quote: Currently the easiest solution is an Ext3 formatted USB disk attached to your Playon, for which no modification of the firmware is required.

 Re: zero bytes files and lost files
So basically abandon the internal HDD and just plug in USB devices? That seems a pretty poor 'solution'. Especially when you think you can't get a TB sized USB stick and now I'm expected to pay more for an external enclosure for my HDD? If I add an enclosure then I need another mains power socket.
I might as well have bought something that was more robust in the first place. Getting increasingly disappointed with the playon HD support from AC Ryan.

@new66uk
You can try reverting back and use firmware version 4824 for your case.

 Re: zero bytes files and lost files
@Arni
I wouldn't say your statement "AC Ryan know exactly how can eliminate this error" is correct. Essentially you're asking the users to dig into the firmware and make their own solution or abandon the internal HDD in favour of a USB device. Like many users, I bought this specifically because of the internal drive so I could store media locally. If that were my preference I'd have bought something like a Cyclone Micro for a fraction of the POHD price and stuck a fat pen drive in it.
As I and no doubt others are not linux users the 'solution' is not very helpful.
Do AC Ryan have a buy back policy for people unable to use the devices functions due to design limitations. More than likely under the UK's Sales of Goods Act this would be classed as a misrepresentation and entitle me to a refund.
thanks Paul

@Arni
The assumption for all Realtek based player does have NTFS problem is a too exaggerated. The player model on this topic is been in the market since 2009 and we do not hear any issue about it regarding deleting of files until the Casablanca firmware was launched. I personally have and using this player with 4824 even my friends does, and I don't face such cases. Now regarding the new firmware platform version 3966 and above. We managed to got such report about it and I heard that this was really a bug that exist in the current platform. To make my story short, all those reports we've got and for users who experienced this issue are all did came from the latest/current platform and not the previous one.

First of all can you let us know what is the issue of the set? How long have you been using the it and which firmware version does it come when you purchased it?
