 Mini2 keeps crashing
Since two months ago my playon hd mini2 has been functioning progressively slower, until now when I can't even log in to my nas server anymore. It has worked well for the months before that, and I haven't changed anything on my end. I can access the NAS server from other devices quickly. I'm using wifi, which hasnt been a problem before and is very fast with other devices. The wifi router is about a meter from the mini2, though most of that is concrete.
Its hard to define the problems briefly but these are the symptoms: 1. When logging in to Network->my shortcuts->ipaddress it took really long for the mini2 to log in. And it failed, prompting me to input my password again (even though its stored in the shortcut). I did but once I get that prompt I know its not going to work anymore. It logged in but then I opened a folder filled with videos and it showed nothing. 2. In the past months I got lots of "Log-on failed" messages when using quick shortcuts and then I had to go to files manager->network etc to login. Now that usually fails as well. 3. In the past 3 weeks the mini2 would freeze up randomly when opening a folder or connecting to the NAS. If this happened I had to pull out the electricity cord and try again. Usually this helped but now Ive been trying for several hours with no luck. 4. So now to test ive disconnected the mini2 from power, reconnected it and turned it on. I went to my quick shortcuts and selected one. It gave a hopeful "Logon Succesfull" message in a reasonable amount of time but then showed that message for about 20 seconds (usually more like 3) and now its prompting me for my login and password. I entered those and again the logon succesful message showed for 30 seconds and then went back to the prompt.
Ive done a safe firmware update but that didnt help.
Any ideas?
Thx,

 Re: Mini2 keeps crashing
Do you use the scan option to build up a database for the video/images/music schortcuts in the main menu ?

I assume you mean the Scan storage option under System in the Setup menu? If so I didnt. I put it to auto-scan now but there is no difference. Im unable to connect to the nas server. It just keeps loading with the circle in the bottom right corner but never does anything.

 Re: Mini2 keeps crashing
Ok, so after a lot of freezing I decided to test it wired on ethernet in my living room. It worked perfectly there. Good. So then I tried using the wifi dongle again but now in my living room where its inches from the router. I could not log in using the shortcuts (it would fail then ask for login details) but I could using the file manager and network and my shortcut there. However the mini2 froze when trying to play the same file I just tested wired.
I tried it two more times and then it worked but im not all that confident. Wired it up and the shortcuts worked again. I put it back in the bedroom where it was initially and I can actually login and play files again, even though I didnt try to use the quick shortcuts.
Im really confused as to what the problem is. There definately seems to be a problem with either my wifi network or the dongle. I dont think the network makes a lot of sense because the mini2 was so close to the router (network speed when playing a file was around 23000, wired it was 95000 and in the original location between 5000 and 16000, usually over 10000). I think this should be more than enough because I havent had any problems with those speeds in previous months.
Could it be possible that the wifi dongle has been corrupted or something?

 Re: Mini2 keeps crashing
Hello, There are not that many settings in the Playon!'s side that you can do to improve the dongle / wireless. The numbers you mention are from the indication windows when you start for instance a movie file over the network? These numbers are not accurate transfer speeds. You can however look at your router settings a bit. Check if you can change your wireless protocol / security and if you can check / make sure you are using 2.4Ghz bandwidth and not 5Ghz in the wireslss settings of your router. These settings will and can affect your network behaviour. You can also try the dongle together with a PC/Laptop to see if the dongle works as it should. You have the needed drivers for this here: http://www.acryan.com/downloads/WIFI_N_ ... rivers.zipThese drivers work with: Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows 2000 Br,

 Re: Mini2 keeps crashing
Haven't tried your suggestions yet because it worked perfectly since. However this week it has become progressively slower again and today I couldnt login again, even after multiple reboots.
I did the same as the last time:
- connected it on another location via utp cable - turned it on, logged in via network, play file - go to home, logged in via shortcut, play file - turn off, remove utp cable and connect wifi dongle - turn on and login with both network and shortcuts again and play files - disconnect power and hdmi and connect in original location
Works perfectly again. I'm guessing somehow the wired network connection changes or fixes something somehow.

Having the same issue with the wireless dongle as well, plan to update the beta version and see how it can improve
