There is no need to format the hard disk again after a firmware installation (upgrade or downgrade). A safe mode firmware installation clears the Playon's flash memory and so all settings, but does not touch the hard disk.
The scanning data base in the .Theater folder will not be affected, but it may make sense to delete the .Theater folder and rescan the hard disk.

If your user data are so valuable, you should have a backup anyway. Any hard disk may crash.

Duivels,

Thanks for a reply, but SAFEMODE should remove older files relating to the database as it appears that the newer versions have some kind of compatibility issue between them. My machine continues to hold onto an old version.

What I need is a firmware that upgrades the firmware and removes temporary files. Just like simple troubleshooting you perform in Internet Explorer by clearing the cache and internet temp files.

What you have suggested is again to plug in a PC to remove the .Theater folder. That maybe fine, but according to your test team you aren't suffering from the reboot issue

So why should we carry out something that isn't affecting you? We need ACR to investigate and get back to all of us with an answer what's going on and why.

As far as I know (I do not have a test team, nor am I a member of a test team), there are no system files on the hard disk, unless you call the scanning data base a system file. The Playons also work without a hard disk, so it would be pointless to have system files on the hard disk.

The Clear History option in the standard Settings menu also clears the scanning data base. Deleting the entire .Theater folder is more drastic.

I think, but I am not a developer, that the idea is that the database should remain valid regardless of the firmware version used. That may have been implemented badly, but that doesn't make it bad idea.

Come on Guys!
Why sell a product with swappable disks and/or usb pluggable external harddrives when having problems that fills this forum!
The POHD2 seems not compatible with interchanging disks.
It's asking for problems if you equip a player like this with file management of its own without informing the user that you can't swap disks or operate with other operating systems.
Sell a product with an internal HD instead.
Be compatible with wide spread operating systems... or not at all.
There is no mention whatever in the manual about this.
Be honest... to your customer also..

I do! I just don't want to have to transfer it all again and delete one of two of the backups to do so!

Are ACR going to make any comments? its only fair to hear from them? What has gone on over a yeah on with this UI?

Question to HD1 users... was it like this with the old firmware that this unit used?

Its annoying as its not really far off working! but what do i know! :(

The GUI1 firmware for the "1" models has no scanning option and no shortcuts and hence has a much better network performance and less trouble with the file system (no scanning data base).
It is possible, however, to force the NTFS error in the GUI1 firmware as well. The GUI 1 firmware will not be developed further, because Realtek has ceased supporting the 1xx3 chipsets.

To be honest, I never considered buying a "2" model, as I saw no significant advantages in comparison to the "1" models. I am using the GUI2 firmware, because I like the shortcuts, but I carefully avoid using the scanning option. I normally stream from my Win 2K3 server.

It is really quite easy.

Navigate using "File Manager" to where you want to go, press the "Menu" key and add to shortcuts. When you use this from the shortcuts menu, it will take you straight there.

I use this all the time to go to shares on my PC as the password is saved also.

There are promps on the screen on the bottom left next to the PlayOn logo.

I want to give the POHD2 a final change.
I bought a 2TB WD drive
I am using the 7716 firmware.

I need to format the new HD and copy the old data back on it.
I like to do this all using my PC running Windows 7.
So format the new drive with NTFS with my PC.
Copy old data to the new one, also with my PC.
Plug the fresh new drive into the POHD2.
Do you think this works and run stable?

The hard drive MUST be formatted with the Playon, because it will be partitioned with an NTFS, a Linux swap and an Ext3 partition for firmware extensions, a.o. Transmission.
After this you can format the NTFS partition again with your PC, because the non Microsoft partition will then be ignored.
Do use the USB connection with your PC to copy your data back. It is much faster and much more reliable.
