Post No sound
Hey all, i just bought the PlayonHD Essential today. Im not happy
Ive flashed the firmware to latest version r2688 and done this several times. Ive read all the problems posted here on the forums regarding sound and nothing worked.

I am using an optical cable for sound and the HDMI is for video. My older WD Media player works fine with the HDMI cable and optical cable for audio, so the cables are fine and my Reciever is working perfectly.

I have tried mpg/avi/mp4/mkv files all same result which is no sound. I did try plugging in a cable into the coaxial output and managed to get very very very soft sound. The volume on the media player is full and on my Reciever was set to full, but still soft sound.

Is my unit broken right out of the box? How do i replace it?

Ta :?:

I believe you have the correct setting, and the equipment you are using are working. For your case, you might need to send it for RMA or contact your vendor. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Thx for the reply Roger, it's what i feared. I might have a problem trying to convince the supplier that updating the firmware is not hacking or tampering with the device. I do think they will say this was the cause of my problem.

OK, so the supplier agreed to swap the unit out (that is what ive been told), so kudos to them.

Now, when I get my new unit, do I test it first to see everything is working before updating the firmware or do same and update the firmware first?

Also I have downloaded the European firmware versions supplied on the website for the PlayonHD Essential. Do I update all three of them?

Thx :!:

I would do exacly as you propose, try it out of the box first and then upgrade firmware if test successful.

If the test is unsuccessful, I would be looking very deeply into all the settings/connections of your A/V equipment.

And for your info: The firmware updates are not cumulative. A new firmware installation completely replaces the existing firmware on your player.
