An idea for the home page! to speed it up a little

Can we use the coloured buttons (Red, Green, Yellow and Blue) to select Video, Music, Photos and file manager?

This is like having a short cut, all you need is the corresponding colour against the option! This would surely be quicker? and more intuitive? Nothing worse than trying to battle through several other options to get to the one you want? when its so slow!

thats a shame that the OS is that restrictive that this can not be implemented?

How goes the lastest firmware release? do we have any improvements with the speed whilst scanning in the home page menus?

Don't think there will be any improvements on this scanning function works right now in terms of speed. This is also hardly implemented in the SDK from Realtek and they didn't show any ambition to improve on this.
When the next release is ready we will let you know of course and provide a changelog as usual.

How about my idea to write a windows based programme that can create the db files, which could then be transferred?

As I have said elsewhere, if you build a successful db, the file can be copied over the network and saved. and pasted back after a clean up!

It at least seems to work when scanning is off? would this be possible?

The idea of course is good. However there are no plans to do this anytime soon.

advantages:
1) allowing users to construct a db without fail,
2) have scanning turned off, improve the spin of the player.
3) make it more stable!

and i cant see it being too hard to implement! but then I'm not a software developer

The database is a standard Sqlite file, see here:

Shouldn't be too hard to implement this on a PC, would be a lot faster and flexible (exclude or group files etc.). Sqlite can be used in most programming languages, even the "non-fancy" ones such as BASIC.
