Post Re: Splitting the Jukebox and Content Shares
Hi archie

Quote:
1. Any specific size of flash drive recommended? 4-8GB in size?

No real recommended size - 1 GB will do, as we are not storing a lot of content on it

Quote:
2. Does it mean everytime I want to use my player for the Jukebox, I need to plug this flash drive into its USB port on player first right?

Leave the USB memory stick in the player as it will always be needed - you are using it for the volume mount points, and the steps described in my earlier posts won't work if the USB drive is not in place

Quote:
3. Is there any specific reason why we use Flash Drive?

No - you can also use a USB hard drive, up to 2TB in size as long as it is externally powered and not relying on the POHD for power off the USB port

Hope this is useful

Andy

Post Re: Splitting the Jukebox and Content Shares
Hi Andy - I have an embarrassing question - it seems not possible to create 2 partitions into a single USB ThumbDrive size at 2GB. I plan to partition it into 2 partitions at 1GB each. But I always failed on the second partition. Should I use other method? Thanks in advance.

How are you trying to partition it?

Firstly, i have a formatted FAT32 ThumbDrive 2GB. Then i delete its partition. And since Windows Partition manager is not able to create partition on a flash disk, so i use third party free ware to create partition, but then still fail to get detected. Or did I miss any of your step?

Hi Archie
Windows by default does not allow you to create multiple partions on a USB drive - but there are ways it can be done: -
- Look for a free tool called Lexar USB format, which wil stop windows seeing it as a removable drive
- Telnet to the Mini and use fdisk from the Linux command prompt to format the second partion - create the first one in Windows
Let me know if you need help on using fdisk

Andy

Or use the Mini Tools Partition Wizard, installable in Windows or the GParted Live CD.

In short: options galore.

Sorry guys - none of those tools works - so I used EasyUS tool :):) So now my USB FlashDisk has 2 partition each about 1GB in size.
So now I'm going steps by step in your guide - first error :)

/tmp/usbmounts/sdb1 # mkdir movies
mkdir: Cannot create directory `movies': Unknown error 30

Unless I use a wrong command :)

Never mind. I downloaded them again from my links without errors (Opera 11.62 on a Win 7-64 SP1 Ultimate).
The Mini Tools Partition Wizard is an executable. Gparted is a CD Iso.
