Post (Certain) AAC LC sound is not working
Hi all,
I just joined so I immediately have a question ;-)

AAC sound (simple stereo, no multichannel) does not work.
That is, for some files it works, but for the intended media as generated by Pinnacle StudioHD it doesn't.

Some clarifications:
- The file is made with Pinnacle from several short camera videos
- It plays fine on the computer, full HD video & stereo sound
- For the best (non-stuttering video) results, a preset format in Pinnacle must be used. Simply using MP3 sound instead of AAC is not an option (literally)
- Attached media info of the 'homevideo' that is NOT working, and of a file using AAC LC that DOES work.
- Switching LPCM/Passthrough in the sound options does not resolve the problem
- Latest firmware installed (v9.5.5.r7317) which should solve the known AAC Multi channel missing center channel problem, but does not fix this (different) problem
- AC Ryan connected optically (SP-DIF), via HDMI and via RCA (analog downmix stereo). Three ways of getting sound, all get silent playing this file
- 'Info' button on POHD simply states Audio 'unknown'

The POHD Mini 2 is still unsurpassed as a means to go to friends with your holiday pictures on an USB stick & simply watch them on an available TV, beamer or monitor.
I did not expect any problems with the simple sound....

Hope to find a solution!
Sjoerd.

Seriously guys?
Not even a tiny 'Welcome to the Forum' reply after more than a week?!? :?

A short answer in the order of:
- This is a bug/feature...
- This is known for ages/new behaviour...
- This will be solved in new firmware/forget about it...
would be highly appreciated....!

Regards,
Sjoerd.

Hi there,

Sorry for our late reply and for any inconvenience. Personally for me it's an honest mistake, I did not see your post. Sorry to say that we have only one known bug for AAC audio playback and that is the missing center in multichannel audio. So far all of our test files do not exhibit this issues.

Looking at the file details, it should be supported and play by the player like the other working example that you have. But from the way it looks, the encoding made by the Pinnacle software is giving an issues. It might be that there is some changes when the video was created by it.

If you can put up link for us to download a sample file then we will try it out on our part using a different software.

Hi Roger,
you should have a PM with a link to the file. Stays valid for 1 week....

Sure hope there's a 'simple' bug that can be fixed in a firmware release!
BR,
Sjoerd

OK, so the problem is reproducible on your side. Hope to hear a positive response from your developer soon.... Would be great!
Changing the output options in Pinnacle as suggested does not help (Only when choosing smaller than full HD video truly different audio options are available :( and even then we would have to re-encode all videos and keep both archives 'fullHD' and 'ACRyan-compatible'.

Best regards,
Sjoerd.
