 how do I see ext HDD over network? Hi
I have just bought a Playon!DVR-HD with a 1.5Tb Int hard drive. I have 2 external USB Hard drives, if I view the Playon over the network from my PC I can't see the USB HDDs, only the external one. Is there a way of getting my network to see the USB ones too?

Switch on SAMBA in the network section of the settings menu of your player. The USB disks must be formatted in advance. If you cannot see the USB disks with the File Manager of the Playon itself, there is something wrong with the USB ports of the Playon or the disks themselves. Are they bus powered or do they have their own power supply?

Re: how do I see ext HDD over network? Sorry yes it can only see the internal drive.
The USB Drives are powered and already have files on them. If I go on to the browser on the Device itself I can see and play the files off the external drives. I dont seem to have Samba in the network options. However my firmware is 8.3.3 r4624 is Samba a new feature?

Re: how do I see ext HDD over network? I have just updated to 8.3.3 r4824 still no Samba. looking at the newst version everyone is having issues. There seems to be no Utube/facebook etc wit this version either

Re: how do I see ext HDD over network? In the older firmware releases SAMBA is called NAS. NAS is the function (Network attached storage) and SAMBA (or SMB) is a protocol to transfer data over the network.

Re: how do I see ext HDD over network? Well I have NAS turned on yet I cant see the 2 USB drives over the network. What do I need to do ?

Re: how do I see ext HDD over network? Normally all drives of the Playon, internal and external, are shared over the network, at least if your PC runs Windows. Samba (SMB) is the default Windows network protocol.
Try if a USB memory stick is shown in your network.
For more help please provide your Windows version (XP, Vista or 7) or other operating system, the relevant network settings and details of your router.

Re: how do I see ext HDD over network? seems sometime it shows both drives, sometimes 1 and some times none of the externals...
I have windows 7 and I have a virginmedia Superhub (which is a netgear router)
My Box is connected direct to the router and my laptop is wifi

eg Map drive M: to \\192.168.1.230\usb1
Windoze sometimes has a hard time recognising ANYTHING on the network.

Re: how do I see ext HDD over network? Just tried that it it says the IP is right but it can see the usb1 drive. If I switch off Nas then back on again on the Playon! it then see the drives. I guess its a bug the firmware I have, but looking at the newest firmware there are lots of issues with it.
