Well this truly sucks. How can ACR flaunt awards on their facebook page and all the while leave half their costumer base without a working product!? And worst of all we all just TAKE IT!? Has everybody given up and traded their devises in or something?? Did I miss the firmware where everything got fixed?

Hi all, we are sorry for any inconvenience. Please try to use the two suggested firmware version listed below for your player.

4824: http://www.acryan.com/downloads/PV76120/Firmware_PV76120_v8.3.3.r4824_European.zip

4585: http://www.acryan.com/downloads/PV76120/Beta/Firmware_PV76120_v8.5.4.r4585_European.zip

The two firmware above are the most commonly used firmware, the most widely used by our DVR community users. Please select and stick with this two version, as currently the latest past few firmware versions are not as good as the above. Again we are sorry for any inconvenience.

If the newer firmwares are no good then take them down from the server. At least list the things that don't work or people are bound to be disappointed. And it is sad to see that the official 7317 firmware was apparently not fully tested. Again guys, what's wrong with using more users in your test team? Lots of people have offered it, but for some reason you keep refusing.

Roger:

Is that statement (to use beta or old FW) means that 76120 is going to "older" section, without EVER reaching full functionality?
Again - Realtek?

What others think about this?
What Your management think about lifespan of 76120?

Good luck

Thank you for your reply Roger, I appreciate your honesty and your suggestions. I have reverted to the 4824 firmware and it is much faster and more responsive.

Could you please tell us honestly, is later firmware being worked on or is 4824 the closest thing to a working firmware that the PV76120 owners will receive?

Thanks again for your reply Roger, you're the first response from someone in ACR for a long time! I understand that by replying you receive a lot of flack, but it reflects more positively on ACR in your customers eyes rather than the ignoring method previously adopted!

Personally from my experienced in using the device and in my own point of view those two version are the most stable, if not, the most useful firmware. That is why I posted the two firmware version as a suggestion for our DVR users to use, it will help lessen user frustration in using the device (again my point of view). Currently I do not know any development going on, but we keep checking this to our developer.

Hi Roger.
I'm a fairly new Playon owner and I did experience huge frustration with the unit initially.
I almost took it back but I decided that I would give it a little time and perservere with it a bit more.

So far I'm glad that I did give it a little more patience as overall the Box does do some really great things.

Part of what keeps me going with this box though is the input from people like you and others here in the forums. I strongly wish that AC Ryan would devote just a little more attention and energy to these forums and possibly if the software guys could post some of the debugging details there's a good chance that someone here may be able to help improve or fix some of the bugs. At the very least, I hope that someone at AC Ryan is looking into the worst of the bugs with this box and can fix some of them. If they'd write some debug versions of the Firmware, many of us would be more than happy to provide useful feedback so that they could track down some of these issues. Why don't they do that ??

Lastly I have a specific question for you Roger. In your opinion you suggested two versions of firmware that you feel have the least number of serious problems. Could you possibly give an even narrower opinion and suggest which of these two you feel is the better version ?
Could you also tell me what I would miss if I am currently running the latest release v8.5.x.r7317 and I decided to try the firmware version that is your favourite ?

Thanks for all your help here Roger. It really is people like yourself that make all the difference in my mind to whether I keep the PlayOn DVR (and put up with the bugs) or whether I'd return it to where I purchased it and get my money back.

Gave up on ACRyan for the same reasons stated here. Went with Windows Media Center on an older spare PC at home. Spent $150 on a TV tuner card. In a word - FANTASTIC !.

It just works, straight off, everything. Amazing GUI, great integration of movies, TV, recordings, music, pictures and even games. My 6 year old loves it and dead easy to use.

I'm not a computer nerd either - pretty damn easy to set up. And because its Windows - there are a million forums and support options to use for any enhancement or bug that might exist. Free add-ins for remote scheduler function, stream your recorded TV to Android/iPhone, GUI themes, RSS feeds, weather apps, YouTube, launch your own apps, change what the remotes buttons do. Best feature IMO - the EPG is sooo quick and easy, single click to record an entire series and it's knows when it starts/finishes and is smart enough to record a few mins before and after. Almost every feature is customizable.
