Lately, i am having network speeds up to 250-300 KB/sec which makes file moving a complete waste of time. I am trying to delete a folder with the 3000 small files through my pc (on the same network) and it takes ages.
Is it something wrong with the latest firmware?

Did ya changed something in your network configuration or installed a firewal/virus software ?

No, nothing!
But what are the normal transfer rates for HD2 on a wired network? The maximum speed i have measured is 2.6 MB/sec which i find pretty slow for a 100 Mbps network.
From pc to pc the network speeds are close to 20 MB/sec.

Hi,

the speed strongly depends on the network configuration and load. In a good network environment (preferably Gigabit) it should average somewhere between 7-12mb/sec..
It also depends if you are doing something on the box itself i.e. playing a movie will put load on the cpu and might slow down the network capabilities.

br,

Hi Arne and thank you for your answer.

Just to make sure that you mean mb /sec and not MB/sec, the average speed of 7-12mb/sec would mean a speed around 1 MB/sec, correct?
In my network (2 pc’s and one HD2 behind a 10/100 router with UTP cat6e), the transfer speed was around 150-200 kB/sec when I tried to delete a large folder with many small sized files but also when I tried to copy a file of around 40 MB.

Imagine that yesterday, after I installed YAMJ update, it took me about 8 ½ hours to complete the whole process (around 440 movies). It was a clean installation and YAMJ had to scan and update all the movie sheets from the beginning, but compared to the ~30 minutes that it spend the other day for the same process when I mounted the HD2 to my pc through usb3, it is a complete waste of time.
Do you think that it might be a firmware problem? Or even a hard disk problem?

Hi Nick,

i meant mb / sec. (megabytes per seconds) not mbit/s ;)
So yes under good conditions you should reach those values. 150/200 is definitely not the desired speed.
This can have of course several reasons. As you mentioned you can check the HDD of course. But you already connected it via usb3 cable and that seemed to work right? Either way there's a new option in the setup menu since the latest firmware: SETUP -> SYSTEM -> Scan HDD for errors

Other things:
1. try switching the network cable
2. try a different switch / router if available
3. try another port on the router / switch
4. disable firewall / antivirus tool

If you this issue remains please let us know some details about your network setup. Routers/switches/cables/computers so we can get a picture on how you set it up.
It is also possible that the network port on the player is damaged. In that case you would need to switch the unit. Do you eventually have the possibility to test your player in another network? For example friend/family?

br,

Yes, via usb3 the hdd is working fine.

I''ll give it a try with a different cable, router and network and post my findings.

Kind regards

Post Re: HD2 re-boots and freezes
Hello,
Here are my findings from last night’s tests:

I used one more router and placed it after my main router (fritzbox 7170) and before my HD2 and network speed increased from around 200 kB/sec to about 5MB/sec.

The same increase in speed was achieved when I changed the (new) router with a switch.
It is a 100 Mbit network, so I think that speeds around 50-60 Mbit are normal, aren’t they?

The strange thing is that the speed remained increased whenever I took out the router/switch and plugged HD2 directly to my fritzbox router. However, speed dropped again after every re-boot.

So, I will stay with an extra router/switch on my network and I hope the speed will remain increased.

Another thing has come up and I am not sure whether I should post it on the same topic or not, so I’ll take the risk.
As I have mentioned before, I have the last beta firmware. I am not sure if started from the beginning, but whenever I push the play button on the remote control it takes around 10 seconds for a movie to start. Is this a normal operation?

We have indeed noticed a small increase of the time needed to actually start up a movie. We will check how this goes in newer firmwares.
Regarding your network it seems pretty clear that the router somehow is the issue. Have you checked the settings etc.? Also are you using custom firmware on the router or did you tweak the stacks or anything?

cheers,

Post Re: HD2 re-boots and freezes
Hi Arne,
I am very sad to re-open this thread, as my problems (not speed problems now) continue.

• First, I am very disappointed because HD2 keeps on freezing without any obvious reason. I was on the latest beta firmware and because of the problems I changed it to the latest official. It seems that there is no improvement at all because PlOHD2 freezes 7 out of 10 times and I have to unplug the device from the mains in order to reboot it. Keep in mind that most of the times the machine is working during the night doing either nothing at all or just downloading from transmission.
• Also, transmission keeps on returning an “Unknown error 22” for some files that were downloaded before the freeze and are unusable.
• Jukebox is not working correctly. I have installed the latest YAMJ (2.6.1) following the guidelines for a correct update, but PlOHD2 is rebooting everytime I try to load the index file.

As you understand, I could really use your help.

P.S: To answer on your question, i use a custom firmware and i haven't made any changes on the settings, but i am pretty sure that my router is the issue. I use a switch now before PLOHD2 and after the router and the problem is solved.

Kind regards,
Nick

Best is to install latest beta R7716

Then delete all paritions in the internal hdd

And reformat the hdd with the playon!hd to be sure you systemfiles on the hdd etc are all good

Then try the player to see if your problems are gone
