Video plays and freezes after x time...(for x I can't say a time. it could be 4 sec it could be 4 min, or or or or..)...And resumes playing after some seconds between10-20 sec..)
Now I narrowd it down to 2 possibilities in my opinion ..( Keep in mind that the BD-player plays the file(s) without problems via WiFi).
1. The file format.
2. The POHD is at it's end.
At the moment i don't have a HDD built into the POHD.
So question@ Kraakie A.V. Evert(Duivels): What are your thoughts about it?

Thanks. BR.

Hi there.

(Just out of curiosity, what BD player do you have? I have a Sony and it is total shoite at streaming movies over the network. In fact it will not stream .mkv's at all)

I have had this with high bitrate movies over my wired gigabit network. I have checked the mediainfo stuff and cannot see any real difference between movies that stop\pause and then resume\stutter badly and movies that play fine. Maybe it's the encoding of the movie file - different versions of mkvmerge - mine are all .mkv's.

I am using PlayOn!X 4824 firmware and the networking is a bit smoother. Although I cannot think why as, I assume, the networking side of things is controlled by Realtek. However, I don't know if this version will help with wireless. Might be worth a try.

All files I have on the internal hard disk play fine. But then, they are older so most likely older versions of mkvmerge have been used on them.

Just some of my thoughts.

I haven't hit the whiskey yet... But I'm about to :)

Cheers.

A.V.

I assume it is always the same video. If not, it is even harder to identify the problem. yes multiple files but always the same and fault is reproducable again and again with the POHD The video filoe may be faulty and the BD player's codec(s) will differ from the Playon's codec(s). Okay.. but if the files are fault, the codec would not matter. In my opinion. So if the file is realy faulty another playter should play it also with errors?

Just to be sure: is your static (manually assigned) IP address outside the DHCP range of your router? yes ip-address is outside the range.
If you previously assigned a "fixed" IP address by an indeterminate lease or a reservation, that IP address will be in the DHCP range, which is correct because the DHCP server still assigns the address. Now you started "from the other side" and should therefore not use the IP address which was assigned by DHCP before. complete network was down for a while to rewire some things. used a ip section in the range that i use that is outside the DHCP section. wifi-adaptor was removed and used a different ip for the LAN port of the POHD.

Did you reset your router and NAS after rearranging your network?
like i said network was down for a while had to move a switch to connect POHD by wire to the LAN. And doubble checked before restart.
Copy your video/movie to a USB stick or disk drive and play it on the Playon from the USB device. That will enable you to determine whether the file is faulty or your network. Didn't do that one yet. going clear a usb-stick and will let you know. (Or mount a replacement internall drive)

For clarity's sake I created a new topic.

Codecs may have different tolerances for faults, that is why your BD player shows no errors and the Playon does.

I will await your trial with a USB device.

Post Re: Playon freezes when using wireless
Hi Evert,

I mounted a "new" internal HDD into the POHD.
Took me 1 night of copying files (38GB).
This mornig I browsed to the file that I gave problems in the first few seconds.
From HDD it's okay.

So allthough my network is fast enough (1Gb/s wired), the POHD network connection(s) aren't.
The Wifi is understandable, but the wired LAN(100Mb/s).
While copying files I noticed it was slow, but that didn't bother me that much.
(Not just thae copying from last night.)
I read some topics in the forum, but I didnt think it was that bad.
Till now, and even more after I removed the HDD from the POHD, I allways watched via UPNP/DLNA without problems.

Will watch some more files from HDD.
If I encounter these hickups again I'll let you know.
To be honest that would be a much bigger disappointment.

Thanks!

A 100 Mbit/sec wired network is fast enough to stream full HD without stuttering.
Copying files over the network is slow, because the Playon's CPU was designed for media playing and has insufficient resources for file handing.
With the SDK 3 firmware (4824 and 3582) I could copy with 4 to 4.5 MB/sec (=32 to 35 Mb/sec). With the GUI 2 firmware the copying speed decreased significantly, because the GUI 2 firmware demands more from the CPU.Using FTP for file copying is better than SMB (Samba).
