Post Re: How many movies can the POHD mini 2 handle?
That's unfair, Duivels, I don't expect the mini to perform as a quad core PC.

I picked it over a rival product because AC Ryan advertise the mini as having 2 USB host ports, and an attractive, user-friendly GUI which displays your movies in a browsable graphical interface. It looked lovely in the manual.

It didn't take me long to discover that YAMJ can't handle more than a few hundred movies without locking up. This was disappointing enough, but now to find that I can't even have an amalgamated text list of movies over two drives?

I genuinely don't think it's asking too much for the machine to function in the way that the advertising and manual suggest it will. Ether that, or for AC Ryan to spell out its limitations - it wouldn't have taken much for the manual to point out that you can't use 2 drives at the same time, or what the limitations of YAMJ are...

If you use YAMJ to 'catalogue' your movies then you can set up the YAMJ library to include movies from multiple hard drives.
That's what I do with multiple hard drives on my NAS and I'm assuming you could do the same for 2 attached USB drives.

Lateral thought - I mount (mount --bind) all the movies on my NAS to a USB key but have never used the Mini2's scanning functionality (preferring YAMJ). Perhaps you could create a separate partition on one of the 2 USB drives and mount everything on that and then scan that - haven't tried it so it's only a thought.

All of the above requires a small amount of Linux knowledge and searching for the helpful stuff from several contributors to this forum.

Just a few lateral thoughts

Don't forget though, that the YAMJ Jukebox has limitations also which I feel are directly related to memory usage.

I suspect the limit is around 500 movies as I have not have had much luck over that. The Jukebox just freezes or the file will not play.

I get around this by having multiple Jukeboxes.

YAMJ itself will happily catalogue over 1000 movies. The limitations are in the Jukebox firmware on the POHD. Firmware 7317 on some players seems to need additional swap space when the jukebox gets large
You can create directories on a USB drive and use these as mount points for network shares - this is how my system is configured, and the scan function will then scan all of your NAS content.
Using this mount point method also makes it easier to use multiple libraries within YAMJ

So any idea on how I can do this on two attached USB drives?

That is what I was replying to as that was the initial query by the OP....

GB...

PS: With the new beta r7716 firmware, it is even worse. Limitation seems to be around 400 titles.

A couple of remarks:
1. This topic started about the scan function, so discussing the possibilities of YAMJ is somewhat off topic.

2. It is beyond doubt that the Mini and Mini2 can handle two and using a USB Hub even more USB disk drives or USB memory sticks at the same time. Just use the File manager to access the drives.

3. It is only logical that the scan function cannot span more than one drive:
    a. The data base with the index of the scanned drives cannot be located in one of the set of scanned drives, because if that drive is removed, the data base is no longer available.
    b. The Mini(2)'s flash memory has not enough room to hold the data base, so it must be located on a USB memory device.
    c. If one drive of a scanned set of drives is removed, the data base's integrity is lost.

Duivels, I disagree.

I think Andy and I were trying to provide another option for the OP as the scan function when 2 drives are connect just does not work.Tried and tested... FAIL!!!

I personally never use the scan function and have it turned off and use the "File Manager" if I have to but generally have each drive catalogued with YAMJ.

Not everyone wants to run scripts/NAS's to provide basic functionality but fail to realise that the playe is not an i7 with 16Gb of RAM.

@GregiBoy: You may disagree of course, that is the quintessence of a discussion, but it is not clear to me where you disagree.

@ Duviels, I disagreed with this:-

1. This topic started about the scan function, so discussing the possibilities of YAMJ is somewhat off topic.

The reason that I disagree, is that both Andy andI were trying to provide a solution for the OP because his expected result did not work.

I do admit though that Andy and I did go a little off track discussing the technicalities and capabilities of YAMJ.
