Post Vertical hold setup question
Hello,

I just bought the Playon!HD Mini2 and when I turn it on for the first time, it's as if the screen is scrolling like the vertical hold needs to be adjusted. I'm using the composite cables output on a 25" Sony Trinatron NTSC TV that was bought in 1999.

I can't even see the menu to make any adjustments to the aspect ratio or anything. Is this player incompatible with my TV? :|

Thanks

Hello,

What you can try to check from your side is that you have the latest firmware installed to your product. Grab it from here and install using the instuctions in the post: viewtopic.php?f=175&t=18243

After the firmware flash, go to: setup:video and make sure that you use 'TV System: 'PAL / NTSC' + deep colour auto + set the screensize with the up/down/left/right and confirm with the enter button.

Note: If you have no image after the firmware flash you can use the TV.SYS button on your remote control to switch resolutions until you have a image on your screen.

Some older TV's have more than 1x composite input and also in some cases have a SCART input. I've had to use a composite to SCART converter on some older televisions to get the composite signal working. This due to the old TV having damaged inputs. This might also be a suggestion to try if possible.

I hope any of the above tips help you.

Thanks. I just bought this player a week ago.

I'm going to try and plug this into another TV. Is there a way to tell what version of firmware is already installed on it?

Thanks...

No problem!

You can see the firmware version currently installed if you go to 'Setup:Misc:Versioninformation' and check software.

Hello,

I was able to do all those things until I got to the screensize menu. Once I clicked on the screensize option, I see nothing but a black screen with a little red line at the top. Am I supposed to see choices on a menu under screen size?

Thanks

NO... You use the up/down/L/R keys to adjust the red lines so that you can see them.

The red lines indicate the edge of the frame and if you can only see one, it meanns all the others are off the screen, so you have to adjust them.

I generally adjust it until I can just see the red lines and then just make it a little larger so I can't see them.

Hi, thanks for your response. I see what you mean but the whole frame is off meaning the top has more space than the bottom when I compress them both enough to see both lines. Is there a way to adjust the whole frame upwards and then expand them out?

To where I can then make them a little larger so I don't see them?

I also don't see right or left lines at all. Am I supposed to see those as well?

Thanks...

You should see a red frame (rectangle) on a black screen. However, did you choose the correct aspect ratio first? The default is 16:9 and you have an old TV which may have a 4:3 screen.

Yes it is a 4:3 screen. I have two options, letterbox 4:3 or pan-and-scan 4:3

Right now the aspect ratio is set on pan-and-scan 4:3

That is why you don't see the left and right sides of the frame. The left and right edges are cut off. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pan-and-scan and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Letterbox
Adjust the screensize with the 4:3 letter box option and afterwards choose if you want to use Letterbox or Pan and scan.
