cable UTP Network does not work anymore
I have a cabled network UTP Cat5. And i just updated to the new firmware.I had the old one with the terrible interface. Now it looks much better but now i can not connect to my ryan anymore. Only the firmware changed, cables, router etc stayed the same. I have downgraded the firmware as was advice on this forum. This did not help. Samba is on. Please advice, i want to load new stuff in the thing.

After the upgrade you just need to reconnect again the device to your network to refresh the IP address. I Suggest to set again DHCP auto and DNS auto.

Re: cable UTP Network does not work anymore
Thanks for answering.
I did, i changed that. Maybe that it will help to set the ip manualy? Also i have a switch that shuts al the devices off, ans also the ryan. So there is no stand-by mode.

Re: cable UTP Network does not work anymore
I have experimented some with it. I have set my ryan to an fixed IP adres. But it is still not a stable connection. It loses the connection after a while. I don't know what to do next. Restoring to factory defaults is an option ?

Re: cable UTP Network does not work anymore
Okay solved. My Hard Disk just crashed totaly. It had nothing to do with network, my HDD died on me. I will replace it and tell if it was realy the case or it was a fluke coincidence.
UPDATE: Yep it is realy my HDD. Never by Samsung HDD's. Second one that dies on me in a few months time.

Re: cable UTP Network does not work anymore
I have the same problem (if fact I've lived with it for a little while, but now it's a show stopper).
I'm on firmware v7.0.6 r3643.
When I go to network settings, 1 of 2 things happen. Sometimes, the settings for wired LAN are greyed out and can't be selected.
The other times, I can select them, and I try to set DHCP to auto, but it wants me to set a DNS address! I don't know the DNS address; that is what I pay DHCP for! Anyway, none of the settings there help either.
I think that this happened after the last time I did a firmware update (a while ago), and I didn't want to update it again, because I read about some fairly serious problems that people were having.
I don't think that the HDD is on the way out, but even if it were, I don't know why the HDD would stop the network interface from working (or why the settings menu would as for the DNS address when it should be getting it by DHCP).

Re: cable UTP Network does not work anymore
The 3643 firmware is a beta, which may contain more unresolved bugs than the official firmware releases. Though you are unwilling to update, I recommend that you update to 3582 first and then to 4824. The latter still has the old user interface and has in my opinion the most stable network performance. I know for sure that both dynamic (DHCP with auto DNS) and manual IP addresses are correctly obtained. Network performance of the GUI 2 firmware releases is rather poor, but they have some attractive new options for shortcuts and indexing your media files. You can always revert to an older firmware release, so you can try which release you like best. Incidentally, the DNS IP address normally is the IP address of your router. Knowing this, you may even want to stick to your current firmware .

Re: cable UTP Network does not work anymore
Hi My problem was that I couldn't get the box to connect to my network at all, and sometimes it wouldn't even let me try to change the settings. Oh and my router doesn't provide a DNS proxy, so all users on the network have to query the DNS of my provider, and the DNS address may change each time that the router is restarted. I can't change the router either; it has to be their router to connect to their network As it happens, I just tried to do an update to 7317 because people seemed to be generally happy with it. However now the PoHD doesn't start-up anymore :-/
