hi guys, having awful trouble wiht this player. Was using mediat0r firmware, no problems just very slow, so decided to go to stock firmware, the release notes for 7317 said have to load earlier firmware 3582. which i have done with the safe boot method. When the unit came back online after the 3582 flash, it just booted up then powered straight off again. i thought ok stick 7317 on miht resolve. but no. now the unit powers on ac ryan logo comes up then blank screen and power down.... i cant get into the software to even change any settings. i have made sure both usb sticks ive used are formatted with fat 32, have downloaded from 2 different pc's.. same thing. im reli starting to regret having this box

You problems are probably caused by installing non AC Ryan firmware, which may have corrupted the bootloader.

What is the matter with this instruction?

Download and extract the .zip file into the root folder of a USB-stick. Make sure the USB-stick is formatted to FAT32.

If you follow it to the letter, you get the ZIP, install.img and the Readme_PV73200_v7.4.x.r7317.pdf file in the root of your USB stick. The ZIp and PDF files do not affect the firmware installation in any way.

No, it's poorly written language because it is missing a few words which makes it subject to interpre-
tation which some people already fell victim to, one of them (kolslorr) you felt a need to rub it in.

You extract from, not extract into.

With that, "extract the .zip file" becomes 'extract the .zip file from' . From what, itself?

So extract the .zip into get's interpreted as move the zip to as making the most sense.
Which it isn't.

The instruction is for those who need to be told exactly how, not for those that already know
how and can do with less exact wording to understand what is needed.

And even if it gets interpreted as you suggested, that is bad enough since the zip file and
pdf have no reason to be there, which is by itself reason enough to clear up the confusion.

I don't understand, why do you feel a need for not clearing that line up when even you yourself
admit it could be better. It's just a simple edit. Show some responsibility, be a moderator.

Be a man.

If John Doe doesn't know how zip archives work he shouldn't be flashing firmwares to anything more complex than a spoon.
I understand your beef (pun intended) with it, but i think it's too small of an issue to clutter this thread with it. Let ppl with real problems with the device to have their meeting place and sometimes get answers and workarounds to their issues.

Alright, finally i had the guts to try this new firmware (previous was 3582). Everything went well, but after i create some shortcuts and try to play an ordinary dvd from my NAS (synology) the player reboots.. OK, lets give it another try, choose shortcut to movie folder on NAS, select movie, reboot! Aaaahhh!! It occurs when i press select and play file or just press play on the actual folder..

Did a safe flash twice.
Any suggestions?!?

For now back to the year 2010 (3582)..

I had the same experience, going back to r5440 didn't help (still rebooting when going to a shortcut). It seems I have to go back some more :(

We are talking about a mini1, which doesn't have a build-in hdd. And my NAS (I guess DBoumans too) doesn't allow the mini1 to write something on it. So there is no .theater map to delete.

And in my case, autoscanning is off and history is cleared. But still reboots from time to time but not all the time. More difficult to put a finger on the weak spot.

More info: last three days I started the mini1 first thing in the morning and everytime the shortcuts worked without rebooting. When later on the day, I started the mini and go to shortcuts I get reboots, but going via 'Bestandbeheer' > Netwerk > My_shortcuts > NAS > Media > folder everything works fine.

I have a USB stick permanently attached to my Mini, a.o. for my own font and a swap partition, on which the .Theater file is automatically created. So the How to may be applicable, even though you use a NAS.

Does your Mini get too warm, e.g. because it has been placed in an enclosure?

There have been two usb-sticks attached to the mini. The first was the stick containing the new firmware. The second one was linux-swap formatted. No .theater folder found on either one of them.

It is standing where it has been for the last 18 months, in an open cabinet under my tv.
