Post Resetting media box
Recently my essential media box has started resetting itself on start up. After two or Three reboots it seems ok. I have a Samsung 2 Terra byte drive installed with 2 equal NTFS partitions. Anybody else had similar problems and suggestions what to do.Thanks

Hi,

1. you can try to reinstall the firmware of course to make sure it's not the software that is damaged or corrupted. See this post: viewtopic.php?f=149&t=16948

2. connect the player via usb to the pc and use chkdsk in windows to check the HDD for errors and eventually fix them

3. while still being connected via usb please also remove the .THEATER folder on the HDD since this contains the scan db which might be corrupted and cause those reboots.

4. after scanning the hdd and removing the folder you can start the player again goto SETUP -> SYSTEM -> Auto Scan and put this option to 'off' to also avoid future scanning errors. Of course only if you don't need this option.

cheers,

Thanks for the Info i suspect it may be the hard drive and will replace it soon.
When i replace the hard drive can i create 1 NTFS partition and will the box be able to read all my files. My old media box could only see up to 1 terra byte partitions.

Thanks

Just use the player to format your new drive and it will help you create one NTFS partition in it.

You don't *HAVE* to format it in the player - it should also work as standalone ntfs drive previously formatted on another system. The only problem is that the player, when formatting the drive, creates a certain partition layout which is needed to have all functions working because the directories need to get mounted the proper way. You might for example have problems with transmission and other things.
Bottom line: if you can, format the HDD within the player to get the full functionality of the device.

best regards,
