I know very little about audio, but I found this topic, stating that optical does not have sufficient bandwidth for HD audio.

As far as I know (but, again, I know very little about audio) you can have full HD audio if you connect your Playon to your receiver/amplifier with an HDMI cable.

Hello,

If you are talking about True HD 5.1 / 7.1, this requires an HDMI cable. Just not possible with SPDIF (Optical / Coaxial) or analog cables / signals.

With SPDIF you can get 'up to' normal Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1 etc.

If your Home Cinema set has HDMI in and out, it should pass on the video signal from the Playon to your TV. If not you could use an HDMI splitter (Google for your country) to pass the signal to both your TV and your Home Cinema set.

If you use an HDMI splitter the signal on both outputs will be the same. The lead of the splitter must go into the Playon and you connect your TV and Home Cinema set to the two slots on the splitter. It splits the Playon output in two identical new outputs. You will have video and (unneeded) audio on your TV and audio and (unused) video on your Home Cinema set.
In the Playon settings you can select the audio option for HDMI and I think it must be "Passthrough" to have your Home Cinema set decode the multichannel audio. But you can easily try both options: Passthrough and LPCM.

A splitter is different from a switch. A splitter splits the signal form one input to several outputs (like this ---< ).
A switch switches the signal from several inputs to one output (like this >--- ). You need a switch if your TV has only one HDMI slot and you have several devices with HDMI output (e.g. Playon, BluRay player)

Hello,

If you give me the brand / model of your home cinema, I can check quickly if this supports the HD audio, if you want to be sure.
