There certainly is alternative firmware. The latest is 8.5.59.r5727, released late last year. Given that the hardware it belongs to looks to be identical to that of the DVR-HD, I'm very tempted to try it out.

Newbie question. Just purchased PV76120 and upgrading to r5440. Downloaded zip file, put in root of a USB stick, inserted stick in side of device, shutdown device, pushed power button for 15 secs (little more to be sure)....

device sat there with "LOADING" on front LED display panel for 12 hours now and instructions say do not turn off during flashing. appears to have stalled although the USB key is flashing indicating it's data is being accessed. what now ?

Don't want to be rude but if AC Ryan was smart enough and released a firmware update, people would not be looking elsewhere to fix bugs.
We were dragged for way too long for the updates. We have all waited patiently for the update, and what have we got?? NOTHING
Not even a word from moderators or AC Ryan staff...
And we did suggest earlier to keep us up to date.. but apparently AC Ryan staff is way too busy answering VEOLO questions rather than concentrating in making firmware update.
We did BEG you for release because truthfully current firmware is useless.. Data handling is rubbish.. files are getting damaged, and dosens of other bugs which were reported.
And now were getting threatened for discussing alternative firmware for your products... Common..You guys should at least look at those firmwares too and learn a thing or two and fix those bugs, because obviously your competitiors have managed to do it... ANd what will happen now... well you will loose your market as you will be getting a bad name as a company who does bugger all in support, releasing buggy product with no hope in fixing it, so your current and potential new customers will simply move on.
I was hopefull that you are (and you mean AC Ryan) different to somme of your competitors by providing a support for your product, and that was what actually swinged me into buying your product. Now I'm regretting it ...
Few moderators were trying to help but they were either hushed by AC Ryan or they simply have no available information.
SO how about AC Ryan pull their finger out and release that firmware so we can all get on with it, rather than threatening users who are simply trying to help and provide temporary fix untill AC Ryan decides to release official release..

I should never have sunk money into this (or even any other product made by AC Ryan). Because of all the problems, I haven't really used my DVRhd. And while the user manual sucks, the crew visites shows and simular events. If a new and much improved firmware and manual don't come out soon, I'll never buy anything with the name AC Ryan on it ever again. If you don't support me, I don't support you!
