There is this black screen when I tries to access my files through Files Manager via the Network. I have already shared my folder to the Playon!HD Essential. The folders can be seen clearly inside the Files Manager, but when I click on one of the folders it always goes to a black screen mode!!!

Please help...this black screen thing is driving me nuts.

I'm sorry to hear about your issue.

This is a very weird issue on how you explain it. Me/or my colleagues have never heard of a case like this before. With the 'black' screen. Do you perhaps mean rebooting? Or just a plain black screen that appears only when you enter a network share? Any further details?

Do you have the latest firmware r1964? Have your formatted the internal hard drive before using it? This black screen only appears when you try to access your shared folder? Any other information that could help us troubleshoot this issue?

I am having a similar issue (if I understand the OP correctly).

I copied a lot of new photos to my pictures folder, but now when I try and open the pictures folder on the device the screen just goes black and I have to switch it off and on again. There never used to be any problems before I copied the new pictures. I haven't had time yet to see what could be causing it, but this shouldn't happen in the first place so it is definitely a bug that still exists (I also just upgraded to the latest firmware, but this did not fix the issue).

I will see if I can find out what is causing this so that the developers can fix this issue.

Did some troubleshooting and it seems that there is a problem reading some images. My mother downloaded some pictures from facebook that got mixed up in the photos folder and if I moved over it the device just freezes up and the screen goes black.

I have attached the image that causes this, please let me know if you can recreate this.

Well, your photo is not as angelic as it looks. This was the very first .JPG file that managed to crash my Mini.

It may be a progressive JPG file, which cannot be handled by the Playon. The picture is too small to see if it is a progressive JPG indeed.

Ok. Good to know that its not only me.

I can understand if a format is not supported, however unsupported formats should NOT freeze up the device - I wouldn't mind a blank space or a message that says "Image format not supported".

Hope the developers look at this and fix it, it's really just a bug that obviously has not been addressed yet.

The Playon normally returns an "Invalid file format" message for unplayable media and I just do not know why this JPG file causes the crash. I suggest that you send your file or files to AC Ryan for further investigation.

I have this problem too, even with the latest firmware (only with jpeg's from facebook), but just opening your pictures in ms paint or so and saving them as .png or bmp or so solves te problem

I've come to the forum for this exact issue specifically with Facebook images from an external HD. Is it something to do with the filename length at all as I've got photos called 234lakdf2030_230dlak_al239432j.jpg from Facebook for example and it seems to crash the player (black screen) when you navigate into the folder containing these images. I'll have to try renaming them and seeing if I can navigate into the folder and display the FB images.

Has anyone updated the firmware to see if it fixes this issue?

Can definitely confirm it's the Facebook formated pics that crashes the player into a blank screen. If you convert the pictures using Irfanview you can then view all the photos through the player. This is the only let down so far I've had from this media player.

Updating firmware does not fix this issue!
