Ik heb een Playon HD1 welke ik met veel plezier heb gebruikt TOTDAT er sinds enkele dagen geen surround geluid doorgegeven wordt. Voorheen had ik beschikking tot DD, DTS en de respectievelijke HD-audioformaten tot 7.1 kanalen aan toe.

Ineens heb ik alleen maar stereo geluid...

Ik heb het volgende al geprobeerd:
Andere HDMI-kabel, geen succes...
Andere ingang op mijn Marantz ontvanger, geen succes...
Firmware update naar zowel oude als de nieuwste firmware, maakt niet uit...
Gekeken of het aan de Marantz ligt: blijkbaar niet want met PS3 geeft de Marantz DD-EX aan!
Met de instellingen van de Playon 'gespeeld' -> op passthrough, naar LPCM en weer terug, hetzelfde na uitzetten van de Playon en raad eens: leverde ook al niets op!

Ik ga vanavond nog proberen een coaxial-kabel aan te sluiten. Mocht dit werken dan ben ik nog niet tevreden eigenlijk: doorgave van HD-audio is dan niet mogelijk.
Update: na aansluiten van een coaxial-kabel heb ik weer beschikking over DD en DTS! Echter: alleen stereogeluid bij HD-audiobronnen zoals verwacht.

Wie o wie weet er een slimme oplossing, buiten het kopen van een nieuw apparaat?

Update: After connecting a coaxial cable, I again have DD and DTS available ! But: I only have stereo sound when playing HD-audio sources (as expected).

Who, oh who knows a smart solution, besides buying a new appliance?

as the solution i think but i need you to look for it,
it seems that some setting in the marantz has changed.
which one? probably the one whit which you can give any source
a audio setting like pro logic or neo6 or theatre or all channel stereo
or just stereo.

mostly it is just one press on the remote,
and the receiver holds that setting.
so test when using HDMI for audio and the player set to Passthrough,
if there is any button on the remote that says "movie" "music" "stereo" "game"
if so press an few times on the button "movie" and see what happens.

if no such buttons are on the remote of the marantz,
send me a link where i am able to download the manual of your Marantz reveiver,
and i will look if i can find which setting needs to be changed and how.

I have tried the things you opted already... I do have a button on my Marantz remote to change the audio setting and yes I can change it but only to Pro Logic and other non-digital settings like multichannel stereo.
I do know how to use my audio devices and I have used them properly until all of a sudden my problem occurred!

It's just like the HDMI-output on the Playon cannot output digital surround sound anymore. Like stated in my post there's a workoaround with a coaxial-cable but that option means I cannot use True-HD or Master-Audio sources...

I am bothered with this because I have bought a 7.1 AV-receiver to enjoy every source I want to 'feed' it!

Any more suggestions?

is there any way to test the playonhd on a other receiver or TV,
(maybe at a friend) to make sure it is the player.

and if so, and it is the player do contact headquarters of acryan in R`dam,
to see if they can help or help testing.

I think it will be difficult for me to find someone that has an AV-receiver wich accepts sound through HDMI. I know for a fact that the ACRyan will output DD and DTS through coaxial. But, as stated, I will try and find someone with a newer AV-receiver...

If it turns out to be the player, what is the best way to contact ACRyan HQ? (mail, phone, smoke-signals)
My guess is it has to be the player because when I use another HDMI-input on my Marantz the problem still exists, while when using PS3 on that same HDMI-input I do get the full digotal surround experience! Sorry to keep repeating myself but it's in my nature to fix problems and this one, I cannot seem to get fixed...

Christmas update.

Yesterday, I had the problem of no digital surround sound on all sources! (UPC Mediabox, PS3, ACRyan Playon HD)

After powering off everything and pulling the plug of the Marantz NR1601 (and putting it back in) I had digital surround sound on ALL sources! I didn't even had to use the coaxial connection on the Playon anymore!

I have sent an email to Marantz to see wether this problem occurs more often... Waiting for a reply from Marantz now...

So, it looks like the Marantz is the culprit, time will tell and maybe also Marantz customer service will tell too!

If the problem occurs again or when I receive an email from Marantz I will share it here.

good news as you know now the real source,
bad as you are in the blue why.

but i have an idea,

do you have switched on HDMI-control (also known as HDMI-CEC)
on some devices?
like the Marantz, the tv etcetera.

ifso switch it off.
as your PS3 and PlayonHD are not CEC compatible,
it might be the source of the problem.
inorder to determine i need to know
if also the coaxial input did not give digital audio at the moment you did not have
digital audio from the rest of the devices?
